Help HTC Wildfire S Update July 2012

kevm66

Newbie
Hi, I have had some issues with my handset since updating and want to know if anybody else is experiencing these issues also.

Since the HTC Wildfire S was released May 2011 I have received 3 OTA System Updates. (My handset was purchased unlocked from Vodafone Ireland and has never been rooted or had the OS customized/tampered with. All updates were through the "Software Update" option.)

I received the 1st update in November 2011 which, as everyone knows, upgraded the handset from android 2.3.3 to android 2.3.5 and added the Sense 3 lock screen.
This update also included many bug fixes and performance improvements, as stated. (Changed "IMEI" to "SV 02")

In April 2012, I received the 2nd update, which stated that it was a performance and stability update. (Changed "IMEI" to "SV 03" and changed "Software no" to "2.26.161.1")
However after updating, I noticed no new features but many new bugs and issues.
These included:

  • Much higher battery temperatures (pre-update: around 25 *C, post-update: around 35 - 45 *C),
  • Notifications not showing on lock screen (eg. how many unread messages over the "messages app" shortcut),
  • increase in force closing of apps,
  • other performance and stability bugs.

In July 2012, I received the 3rd (and most recent) update, which stated the same new features & performance improvements as the 2nd update. (Changed "IMEI" to "SV 04" and changed "Software no" to "2.26.161.2")
The results were also identical to the 2nd update and the only thing that changed is the Software no. from 2.26.161.1 to 2.26.161.2.

Clearly these updates were not an improvement. After several Factory Resets/Formats and contacting HTC support I still have reached no resolution for these problems. HTC support said to send it for repair but I want to know if anybody else has the same problems 1st.

Thanks everyone! Kevin.

Glad to see kevm66 post. Was thinking of updating my own Wildfire S's software but after the problems I had in the past am rather hesitant.

I picked up a lot of bug in the second upgrade the most obvious of which was the difficulty opening the screen and also opening and closing apps.

The last update seemed to have fixed all that and I'm wondering should I take the risk with this new update - what's it offering me anyway?

my GF got her Wildfire S about a month ago (June 2012). Brand new from Carphone Warehouse in the UK. So not locked to any carrier, no bloatware.
Never been messed with, completely stock.

It recieved an OTA update straight out of the box.

Friday my GF wanted to install Swype after trying it on my phone, so she used my PC to register. Anyway her phone wouldnt recieve the e-mail (gmail), so I had a look & basically it had ran out of space. Around 10 MB left.

It was also offering another OTA update, she doesnt check her notifications so I dont know how long this has been on offer.
It wouldnt do it, saying it needed 25MB.

So I uninstalled everything I could using the phone, & then tried the update again.

This time it said the phone was running modified software & refused to do the update. But the phone is totally stock.

android 2.3.3

htc sense 2.1

software number 1.33.401.3

kernel 2.6.35.10-g60b2609.

So after seeing what a few others are saying about the latest update, should I even try to get it?

I just contacted HTC Support again about the problems and they suggested that the update, somehow, installed incorrectly. I don't know how as I did everything as normal & had the battery fully charged. I am sending the phone for repair next weekend and hopefully it will get sorted.

I hope that I did go wrong somewhere when installing and there is nothing wrong with the actual update itself, just my phone. So for anybody wondering whether or not to update, first double check to see if anybody else is having problems after updating. If you do update let me know how u get on.

Ssscrudddy "should I even try to get it?" ; After I get my phone back after repair ill keep you posted on whether or not you should update.

kah22 "what's it offering me anyway?" ; unfortunately I haven't actually seen anything new (not even minor). When you go to install it just says "performance and stability update". I searched everywhere online & can't find anything about new features...

HTC are going to collect my phone for repair on 2 August 2012.

yeah, I have contacted HTC and suggested me for phone's service.

If you feel your mobile's all problems have solved please tell me.

Thanks for reply.

If yes, please tell feedback after servicing the HTC's performance and programs stability.

My phone recently got a version update and I guess there's this problem I'm facing.
New Version: 2.26.720.3
The Facebook for HTC Sense just syncs contacts again and again. Even if the contacts are already synced it would still ask me to sync the same contacts after 10 - 15 days. This actually consumes lot of my internal space.
Today I discovered another problem. All the Facebook synced contacts gone! I checked my setting and found the Facebook for HTC Sense contacts are 0 (zero). Then I removed the Facebook account, restarted, then again added the Facebook for HTC Sense account and now it's syncing again however the process is very slow.
Even Twitter has stopped syncing pics with the contacts. LoL!
I wanted to understand is anyone else facing similar problems of is it just me? Secondly, any resolution?

My device was returned from repair this morning however, unfortunately, I haven't noticed ANY difference from the problems I was facing before. :(

I also have another major problem that I forgot to mention before related to the headphone jack. I have a pair of earphones (Dre Beats) which work perfectly in any device apart from my Wildfire S. When I insert the earphones I can only hear mumbled noise. They only work if I hold them in and twist them a certain way, which is quite annoying. I have tested other earphones in my Wildfire S and they seem to work perfectly and also the Beats work perfectly in any other device!

I have sent an email to HTC Support and awaiting a reply.

Partha.Barman Those problems sound really weird and annoying. I would try contacting HTC Support and see what they think. If they don't provide anything useful info I would try resetting your phone (Settings > SD & Phone Storage > Factory Data Reset > Reset Phone). This will delete all data on phone (not on SD Card) but is not guaranteed to fix the problems. Hope this helps! :)

Hi Kevin, I am Rohan, I suggest you don't try to reset your HTC, because some times "factory Setting" wouldn't help to solve our problem even sometimes create new problems, so.....

and I want to ask one more thing that Your all problems have solved after servicing from HTC service center?

Please reply, waiting

Bye

-Rohan

Hi Rohan,

Thanks for helpful advice about the factory resetting, I didnt know that :)
So maybe Partha.Barman don't factory reset but ask HTC what they think...

No Rohan, unfortunately not :( Everything is exactly the same as before!
I emailed HTC and they said to send it for repair again but I don't see how this would help...
What do you think?

Kevin.

May be your problem would be solve this 2nd Service, Hope for the best.
Thanks for reply.

When you would get your HTC from service center for 2nd time, tell your problem have solved yet?

Bye

I contacted HTC once again. Pretty much they said just to send it for repair again with all accessories and it would be assessed by a "senior engineer"...

I am not confident about sending the phone for a 2nd time. I am really disappointed that the problems were not solved with the 1st repair. Why would the HTC Repair Team not have done all in their power to fix the problem the 1st time?

I feel really let down by HTC and the fact that they can't solve a few Software issues makes the company look bad. The quality of Software (in my opinion) is usually outstanding compared to other manufacturers.

However in this instance I would recommend people against ever choosing a HTC handset and although I prefer the features of HTC Sense over other OSes I would never choose HTC again because of the problems I have been facing, without a clear explanation as to why.

I asked HTC Support: "Can you GUARANTEE that this 2nd repair would solve all of the problems 100%, once and for all?" and I am awaiting a response...

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!! :D

Others asking if they should update or not...
go ahead & see what happens. I'm sure if everybody has the same problems as me that HTC will realize that they sent out a buggy update and (probably, however not guaranteed) release a new
one to solve the bugs..

Good luck! :)

I had a terrible experience with HTC in Ireland too, 9 weeks from initial service request to getting the phone back!

They told me that they try to repair twice then replace the phone, so it might be worth sending again...

After updating my HTC Wildfire S to Android version 2.5.5, Software number 2.25.841.4 I am no longer able to have my SMS messages displayed or read out on my Eclipse AVN827GA in car multimedia unit. Prior to the upgrade this function worked perfectly I would receive a TEXT message and the multimedia unit connected to the phone and I received a voice saying
