Help https...unable to open secure network

Just got my Acer a500 tablet, which is wifi only. Whenever I go to a website which requires secure log in ( bank, mobile phone account etc) it says something like no secure network can be opened, and I can't access my accounts. I'm connected to my home wifi which is secured with a password.
My friend said there is a security issue with android devices, and when online, they are vulnerable. And can easily be hacked or something. I wasn,'t really listening to him,as he is known for lying about things like this.
I don't have the same issue when accessing these websites via wireless on my samsung galaxy s which is why I find it strange.

Anyone know a way around this? And is android vulnerable? I read the bbc article about the security issues, but find it a bit'of a scaremonger.

This is not a general behavior of Android.
Some secured Web pages, your browser doesn't know the security certificate and refuses to open the Web site.
But I know of no workaround for this case :(

I'm lucky with the secured Web pages I need to access.
