Whenever I try flashing clockworkmod recovery from ROM manager,a wrong phone model than mine pops up as→ HUAWEI U8160. It is the only model which comes up, but I have the HUAWEI ASCEND M860 (2.2), so for some reason my device isnt recognized. Why is that and how can I fix this? Does it matter? (dont have a PC or USB cable btw) plz help. Thanks :eek:

Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier.

I tried on my old ascend and got the same thing.
I think koush changed how the app works.
I sent a report via market but maybe it would help if you did too as mine is on cm7

I guess it doesn't show the number of the CWM until you flash it? I can't remember. The one that was on ROM Manager was 3.0.0.5 I believe. If the numbers match it would be ok.

;) problem solved I think. I downloaded an older version of ROM manager premium and found my device. Should I proceed then?

Several times I attempted unsuccessfully to install 2 different cm7 ROMS. Trial and error. None worked! This is my 3rd-4th time reverting back to my current stock ROM. Everything seemed to be going fine during the installation process but I noticed error message saying, SD-EXT. IMAGE NOT FOUND,SKIPPED. I followed the instructions on the ultimate acsend guide for cm7 to a T and when it came down to mount and storage→format SD-EXT, I get an error message saying: error sd-ext not formatted!. When I first boot the phone, it doesn't go past the blue ascend screen with the blue Droid bot. I've left it on more than 30 mns each time and nothing. How can I fix this??

Did you partition the sd card? It needs to be partitioned for the a2sd to work. (sd ext is the partition where the apps go) Recommend using 512\32swap. If you still can't get it to boot you might have to use Bob Zhome's CM7 for lazy Ascends. Important note: you'll need to partition the card BEFORE putting the CM7 and gapps on there, because partitioning will wipe the card.

(Sorry total noob here lol. Just wanna be well informed before anything, thanks for being patient) "Recommend using 512\32swap."←?? how do I do that? And do I partition the SD card during the installation process or separately? How much data would be wiped from the card, can I ever revert back to stock if I do this?

You can do it in ROM Manager. Go down to Partition SD Card, select 512 for ext, then 32 for swap. This is like formatting the card, it will erase everything. It won't stop you from going back to stock, but you should make a new backup before trying to flash anything. You have to do this (partition) first, then download the CM7/gapps, then follow the steps in the guide. You can't do it during the installation because you would erase the card, (which contains the CM7 file) and you would be stuck without an OS. (or a backup) Having a good backup is very important because you can't flash back to stock without a computer.

Thanks to all you awesome folks here on this forum for all the useful info. I installed an older version of cm7 than the ones I tried downloading previously. So far so good. Everything works fine. I guess the newer builds require more modifications. Is there a difference between the older updates and newer ones?

Congrats, good to hear you got it working! No major differences, really, just some tweaks here and there.

One bit of advice: when you start messing with the overclock settings, make sure your phone can handle it before you check the "set on boot" box. That way you won't get stuck in a boot loop.
