Help Huge sudden battery drops

Hi there,

I updated my Galaxy S2 to ICS a few months ago and ever since I've had issues with the battery.
The battery life is fine, I've not really noticed a difference. The issue I've been having is that the phone when left in standby, will heat up hugely (often to 50C) and shut down. When I turn it back on, the battery is dead. This is what the battery graph looks like:

I've tried doing a factory restore of the phone to see if that would help, but it hasn't.

If anyone knows why it's doing this or knows of any fixes I'd really appreciate it.

Happened to me when I upgraded. Did it several times then hey it just stopped. I looked at all programmes running etc nothing strange. Can't help but your not alone.

It could be remnants of the old firmware (which will include the battery stats) interfering with the new. It seemed to sort itself out for howdo but a quick fix (and good) could be too calibrate your battery.
Turn phone off, charge to 100%, quickly unplug and remove battery, wait for at least 2 minutes to let all residual current leave your phone, put battery back in and enjoy.

The sudden drop is due to the sudden shut down of phone. You would see the battery graph going upwards instead after the sudden drop. Its trying to get a right battery charge reading I guess.

If you can do a factory reset, please do. If its remnants of firmware issue, wiping cache and factory reset might resolve that problem.

Completely agree with that. I was just suggesting the stab in the dark on the slim chance of not having to reset the phone as it's no fun if you're not rooted.

Cheers for the responses everyone. When I didn't get any for a few hours I started to lose hope!

I've tried doing a reset and that hasn't seemed to have helped. I'll give wiping the cache a go. How would I go about doing that exactly?
