Root HW 004 sensitive to non-stock kernels?

Anyone else have an Evo that seems to be temperamental with anything other than the htc kernels?

I started off with Myn's rls3, which came with #10 kernel, and now I'm on rls 4 with #17 kernel. The phone is fine with this kernel, but it feels sluggish at times and the battery life has been rough.

I've tried the ziggy471, kingx #9BFS and kingx #11CFS. All were great with the ability to over and underclock. Neocore scores jumped from 28.7 to 32ish range which attributed to the smoothness. Battery life was better. But all this was short term. After a day or 2, the phone would start locking up, or doing random reboots, or have screen tearing issues, and so on and so forth. I tried all them overclocked slightly and also at 998mhz max also. Smartass and/or on demand.

I've had the phone for just about a month now, so it's HW 004. Could this be why? I lucked out and got a 0.97 hboot, so rooting was cake, but not being able to use a faster more efficient kernel really sucks right now.

Man, this is getting confusing with the different combinations of hw versions 0003 and 0004 and the different hboot versions and software versions. I haven't heard of a hw version 0004 with hboot 0.97, but there you go. Anyway, I think we've all pretty much determined that hw version 0004 has slightly different hardware. From what I understand, the camera is the main difference. Performance issues aside, does the camera work with other kernels (non-HTC)? Most people with hw version 0004 are probably going to have to wait for HTC to release the source before they can use other kernels. That being said, I've heard of some people using other kernels with no issues whatsoever, so maybe that's not the case, entirely.

I know my phone is 0004 and i'm pretty sure i'm running hboot 0.97 and my phone works fine w/ different kernels.....Akazabam can attest to my trials and tribulations with different kernels lol:D

Is your sig up to date? If so, then is the Netarchy Toastmod 4.2 cfs no HAVS kernel the best of all you've tested on 004? I haven't tried that one yet.

As for the camera, that worked fine with all the other kernels. I just would have various screen, cpu/lag, and reboot issues after awhile with all I've tried so far.

Kernels act different on every phone. Its kinda weird but thats how it is. For instance, Im running CM6.1 and get constant reboots when I flash the zendroid kernel. But a ton of other people have had great success running zendroid with no problems. So your best bet is to just start flashing some kernels and see how your phone runs.

Ive rooted quite a few friends evos, and always used one certain netarchy kernel with stock 2.2 that works wonderful on just about every phone.
On 2 phones though, it completely screwed up the screen and wouldnt work so i had to use a different kernel. Its weird how that is but oh well

I can get about 36+ hours of battery life (w/ heavy use I can still get 24 hrs.) with the kernel in my sig......I'm trying netarchy 4.2.1. cfs less havs and I'm getting similar results.
