Hyperion Extended Battery...Anyone tried it?

I didn't buy the Hyperion brand. I got a cheap 3800mah Chinese knock off of the mugen. Compared to the stock one, I get over double the life out of this battery.

I bet with a name brand, like Hyperion, it would have higher quality internals and last longer. Don't quote me as I haven't tried your exact brand ;)

The reviews on that one don't seem too flattering.

I just ordered myself this one Newegg.com - Extended 3800mAh Battery and Back Cover For LG Spectrum 4G LTE VS920 Verizon #9898#

3800mah, free shipping. Doesn't have any reviews though. I've figuring that it's over double the capacity of the stock battery... it should give at least half again over the stock battery's life.... Guess I'll see in about a week.

Looks like the exact same one I have. If it is same, be warned: the first 50% drains like a normal stock battery and last 50% drains real slow. Usually it will stick at 38% for a long time. 15%-1% it lasts forever lol.

Edit: I think it does this as the company who made this battery were expecting the kernel to use mah to measure drain and not mV like our badly made hardware does.

My boss got the same make battery for his HTC (uses mah draw to measure battery life). He had to fully charge his battery then let it drain to completely dead for his phone to know the mah of his new battery (the last 60% of battery life was 6-1% for a day or so). It took him two complete drains for it to calibrate. After a few months and mine still is wonky.

Yeah. That doesn't surprise me.

Normally it takes a few cycles to calibrate

I always wondered about that. I have the Hyperion battery and used it during hurricane Sandy when my power was out for over a week and it was a life saver.

this battery does it requier a large rear plate? I just got a ballistic case and dont wnat to worry about a large plate and no case. My battery is starting to drain very fast now that its 18 months old.

The only way to get a bigger battery without a different plate... I believe is the Spectrum 2 oem battery.

*edit*
in fact, here's a link to it for an example.

Keep in mind though, it only takes you from like 1850mah to 2150mah so the change should be pretty negligible.

So my battery just got here. Great shipping time.

First impression... the cover that came with it is creep. I may have to call to try and get another one sent. It doesn't snap on all the way. If I get one side snapped... the other side unsnaps.

Wonder if it's got to do with it being off brand :what:

I have one of those the back cover never fits. I got like 2 replacement ones neither fit. The only one i got that worked was the one for the Hyperion battery.

I just wanted to comment on Hyperion's customer service...it is AWESOME. I bought 2 batteries that came with a charger so the batteries don't need to be in the phone to charge, and after a month and change the charger stopped working. I emailed Hyperion and they got back to me right away this morning and sent a new charger out today w. a tracking number and didn't request me to send the broken one back because they didn't want to inconvenience me with the hassle of returning it. The rep I talked to said they like to treat their customers how they themselves would like to be treated, and based on this I would say that is the truth.

So you're saying the lg spectrum 2 battery fits in the original spectrum? So if I were to buy this
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00BIPRBUS/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1372435256&sr=8-2&pi=SL75
It would PROBABLY fit in my spectrum?

I'm tempted to try this one since the spec 2 battery will work in our spec 1's... any thoughts?

I really want to say go ahead but I don't want to make you feel like a test guinea pig. If you do get it, please inform us on your experience. Just beware that if it doesn't work, you wasted $20 and it might harm your device. I really hope it works though. I might take a gamble and buy the Hyperion Spectrum 2 batteries (the one I posted in this thread).

I ended up getting the cheap brand. Took a second try for a back cover that worked.... but I'm happy with it.

FWIW, I've decided to try an experiment.

I am going to try a BL-53QH cell in my Spectrum. Just put it on order. The terminal voltage appears to be the same, so if it's mAH rating is better - should get more effective runtime.

The important thing here is to purchase an OEM or name-brand cell. I'm not sure purchasing something which is non-OEM is such a good idea, with the possibility it is assembled incorrectly or missing the proper protection circuitry. There have been cases of Li-Ion cells going into "thermal runaway" and actually injuring people.

With respect to the original cell vs. the BL-53QH - to me the physical dimensions of the cells determines if they are compatible. I could not find this information however.

I will report what I experience. But I will not be out that much money if it doesn't fit.
