Hyperion Extended Battery...Anyone tried it?

FWIW, the stock Spectrum Battery is a BL-49KH, 3.8V, 1830mAH battery.

I just received an OEM BL-53QH, 3.8V, 2100mAH battery I ordered on Amazon.

That's apparently 14.75% larger capacity than the original battery in what appears to me visually (and based on fit) the same form factor!

I have it charging now. I will report how it's doing after a few cycles.

I had a battery go bad on me, and in an emergency, I had replaced it with a RayOVac, CEL11187, 3.6V 1500mAh cell I got at a battery store in upper New York State while on travel, which I've been using until now.

VZW and LG were completely out of stock BL-49KH. Hmmm.

Over the RayOVac, I should theoretically see a whopping 40% improvement! I know my mileage may vary.

On Amazon, with free shipping, the BL-53QH cell I just purchased was $9.99. :smokingsomb:

I'm getting about 12Hr runtime. This seems better than what I had, so I'm reasonably happy. My results are a bit skewed as I am rooted and have AndroidTuner installed and somehow I had messed with the Governor settings by accident. Phone was sluggish yesterday, so I manipulated settings, and now maybe I'm running the CPU a little faster than it was before.

I don't have an Apples/Apples comparison going (obvious in more ways than one). I might look for ways now to eek more runtime out of this new cell.

If anyone is using AndroidTuner, and can relate their Governor settings that they are happy with, please let me know.

Regards.

I use SetCPU and don't mess with the governor settings. I just have a few profiles to adjust the CPU clock speeds and which governor is running at certain times. Low speed and powersave when screen is off. Slightly underclocked and conservative when screen is on. Heavily underclocked and conservative when battery is under 35% with screen on.

ortrigger, sounds like SetCPU may have more configurable options than Android Tuner. Maybe not. I haven't tried it.

In AT, I see that based on CPU temp (with thresholds), I can modify min/max CPU speeds / establish a Thermal profile.

I like SetCPU because it seems more streamlined than any of the other CPU management apps I have tried. It also has highly customizable profile features built into it. It's a paid app though so if money is an issue, then there are other alternatives.

I just got the battery in. I threw it in my phone and will run it for a few days then report back.

Just updating...
I ran the battery today at a location that normally knocks my 3800mah battery down to 25% by 6pm. It killed the 3080mah battery by 6pm which I think is about right. I'm going to run the stock battery tomorrow at that location to see how long it takes to die for a reference.

ortrigger, the $$$ isn't an issue if the app works well. somehow I'm in a non-persistent setting h_ll with AndroidTuner at the moment, and I'm not happy. utility is super feature rich, but some of it very non-intuitive.

I'll give SetCPU a try. Thanks.

I know setcpu's author used to have a free xda version up on xda for members. Not sure if it's still there, or up to date though.

I was finally able to run the stock battery at that job site with crappy cell service for a normal day. It was dead by 3pm*, so to sum up -
3800mah extended battery down to 25% by 6pm*
3080mah Acesoft battery (for spec2) dead by 6pm*
1830mah stock spec battery dead by 3pm*

I would say the Acesoft 3080mah battery for the spec2 is a good purchase for our spec1's since it does last a good bit longer and still fits in the stock cover.

*The days I tested the 2 extended batteries I was onsite by 8am, whereas for the stock battery I didn't make it onsite until 10am, so it would've probably died sooner under those circumstances. Also try to keep in mind this site is brutal on battery life - the 3800mah battery is normally only down to 40% by 10pm on one of my usual days in decent coverage areas.

I've gotten the battery in the original post. It will last me all day with moderate usage, stock rom. Only issue is no proper cover. Fits in OEM hard shell with the clip, but too big for the actual case. Just ordered that 3080 battery recommended by reeseboy. Fingers crossed that this will get me through another year.

Let's us know how it does for you. Here was my use today. Had an almost 2 hr call in the middle of the day there.

What battery do you use as your daily driver?

Also I am thinking of getting the acesoft bundle that comes with 2 3080 batteries and the wallcharger. Do you think it will be a good idea for me to ditch the oem stock battery and use the the high capacity batteries instead?

Regarding your extended batteries, how do you calibrate them when you first get them? Do you put them on your phone and completely charge them for a couple hours before use (with the phone off)?

Thank you for your help. :)

I saw this in amazon.

It comes with 2 3800 mah batteries and the cover. Just a heads up.
These brand battery are shit. I had it charged overnight then use it one time in phone then depleted in half hour. No more charging ability. Stays low battery.

Edit: Because these battery does not have auto shut off the charge when completed. Pick different battery brand like Hyperion and etc. Do not pick red and yellow bars on battery.

Sorry for the delay in response - I have been using the Acesoft 3080mah as my daily driver for almost a month now... since I ran the stock battery for a day on the 26th. It doesn't hold up as long as the 3800mah, but it generally still makes it thru a day safely for me and I love having the stock case on my phone again.

As far as calibrating goes, I generally plug it in and get it fully charged, then run it until the phone dies a few days in a row.

It sounds like you had a bad experience with the cheapy red and yellow batteries... sorry to hear. I personally used one of those for 6 months and it was great! the circuitry for preventing overcharging seemed to be in the battery I purchased, otherwise I would have had problems from leaving the phone on the charger overnight when I slept - 6 to 7 hours. The only reason I'm not still using it is because I found the Acesoft 3080mah battery that fits in the stock case.

FWIW, On July 20, I made a post referring to a replacement battery I purchased on Amazon that fit in the phone without a bigger back, and had an increased mAH rating:
OEM BL-53QH, 3.8V, 2100mAH

That battery is now dead.

And so when it failed, I threw my RayOVac battery back in the phone and experienced the dreaded Use Genuine Battery shutdown "protection".

Somehow I cleared that problem, and after a few FDRs (which I probably didn't have to do but I was in a panic), the phone is working again, but I'm suspicious this problem might re-appear unless I go to another "Genuine" OEM battery.

There was no "free lunch" for me.

Update:Battery was 100% at 1:35pm it's now at 21% at 9:54pm with very minimal usage.I guess I gotta charge it a couple more times.

I just order a pair of airsoft batteries (3080 mah each) that came with a battery charger and purple USB cord for about $35. I can't wait to test it out. Hopefully Acesoft ships fast cuz school starts Wednesday :(.

Make sure you let it completely die, as in phone shuts off. My first run on my 3800mah extended battery ran for 4 hours on 1%... it needed to recalibrate for the larger battery.

After you do that, you will have to plug it in for 15-20 mins for it to get enough charge to turn the phone on. During this time it boots to a charging screen. To get out of this charging state and back into CM (after the 15-20 mins of charging has passed), you will need to unplug it, pull the battery, reinsert the battery, and turn it on. Once you see the CM boot logo you can plug the charger back in.
