For many years I have been playing with computers, even acquired a 2 year degree in IT, but I've never really found my niche. Once in awhile I will see something that picks my interest. A new programming language. A new type of technology. A new IT buzzword. While those types of things do give me a buzz, nothing has really jumped out to me. Until now. I remember years, when Java was relatively new, meeting some fellow in a Barnes & Noble bookstore. He was over in the programming section looking at the WROX books -- back then, WROX was one of THE publishers for programming books. ASP, and then PHP, were all the rage. I was going to 'be' a programmer. I bought SO many books, and looking back, I probably would have gotten better returns on my money by paying my utility bills than in completing a tutorial in PHP. 
So, back to the programmer dude I met. He really was a programmer, not just some hotshot kid with a 'Hello World' app sitting on his cellphone. And, I really was some dude in his early-to-mid 20's thinking that because I knew how to write 'Hello World' in 4,000 languages that I really had a career in programming ahead of me.
Over the years I watched SUN and the way it handled the whole Java thing. I'd read about how Java was going to do this and that, how one day it was going to rule the world (Wang Chung, baby!). Over the years I have tried using cellphones, only to be turned off by bad connections or extremely expensive contracts. Finally, after getting the Motorola Triumph (yuck!) phone I got to experience this thing called 'Android'. And, after having played with the iTouch a few years back, I don't see how Apple even has any market share in the smart phone business. No wonder they're suing ever Joe and his granny.
I'm really liking Android. I LOVE Linux. And, I really like the combination of the two. On another site, last night (I have created the user 'arrowx72' so if you see that name it's probably me) I saw people tend to find learning about theming to be the easiest path down the road of contributing to the Android base. Any others here going this route, or have other ideas? I wouldn't mind learning a bit about the file structure that Android uses (does GummyCharged convert the file structure to EXT4 from RFS?) and perhaps get into tweaking or writing scripts. I no longer have allusions of 'becoming' the next big programmer, and I no longer have fantasies of creating the next big editor. At this stage in my life I'd be happy just making minor tweaks here and there, and if it's meant to be, then so be it.
