Help I am suffering with the calendar please help

I have a droid and I am enjoying it but I cannot figure out how to use the calendar. When I open the calendar icon I get to the calendar and I can type new but it just tells me I dont have a calendar yet and I cannot enter. What am I doing wrong????? Thanks much Dave
 
are you signed in to your Google account

settings > accounts & sync > manage accounts

AND you need to tell the Calendar what Google Calendars to sync with
 
when I go to accounts and sync all that comes up is bacground data... auto sync..and my gmail acct. nothing about telling where to put the calendar thanks dave
 
I hope I'm not being too basic here, but do you already have a google calendar that you use in your browser?
 
I thought so I have one on my icon and I went to google and entered calendar and one came up...but I closed it out so i could use the one the icon but it wouldn't work still says I have no calendars. And BTW nothing is too basic for me I am not used to a smartphone and I need all the help I can get you are very helpful...all of you ..thanks Dave
 
I think you have to first create one in your browser. THEN from the Droid Calendar icon, hit Menu >More >Calendars & look for the name of the Calendar you created in your Browser. If you see the Calendar but do not see the words 'synced, visible', then tap the Calendar & that should activate it to show up on your phone.
 
sorry when I tap calendars screen then more/calendars..screen goes black.I dont know what to do. Im just going nuts this should not be this difficult
