After rooting the phone which was a breeze, I loaded Rom Manager. I flashed the recovery mod. The thing is my phone model is not listed and I had to guess at what model to flash the recovery for. Well it said the Flash was completed so I downloaded the latest stable Cyanogenmod straight from the phone. I then installed it. I then chose to "wipe data and cache". It then rebooted and turned into a brick. It will not power up in any fashion. I just got the phone yesterday and this is the second one this has happened to. I took the first phone back this morning and got a replacement. Why has this phone model been skipped in the list of phones? What should I have done? Any ideas would be helpful

Why would you think that flashing a ROM from another phone would work here?
Not to be blunt, but you're bricking your devices because you're not following directions and as a result are damaging your phones due to ignorance.
1) Do not use ROM Manager.
2) If there is not a ROM FOR THIS DEVICE, do NOT flash it.
CM7 is open source, but each build is specific to a device. You can only flash a build that has been specifically compiled for your hardware. Picking a build at random and flashing WILL RESULT IN AN INOPERABLE DEVICE.
If you flashed an image with a custom bootloader, you've screwed yourself. Go buy a new phone.
If you flashed just a system image and the bootloader is still intact, you should be able to boot into download mode and use Odin to restore. The only problem here is that I don't believe a stock Cricket Vitality ROM has been dumped yet, so you'll need to use the MetroPCS Admire ROM or the generic CDMA Admire ROM to flash.
The Admire and the Vitality have the same system hardware, though the radios are different. So long as you are just flashing a system image you should be fine. Don't flash a radio (aka modem) unless it has been tested as working on your device.
Well, at the time I did it, I figured there was another phone the same as the Vitality that I could use the ROM for. Like you said the Admire is practicaly the same, BUT at the time I didn't know it was the Admire I was looking for.The Admire wasn't listed either by the way. I have since found out that Rom Manger and CyanogenMod don't support the Vitality.

worst case from flashing a rom is a bootlooping phone that wont startup (you can still get to recovery and download mode tho...) it was flashing clockworkmod recovery that bricked you since we have talked toi koush about how it flashes teh wronmg partitions on the admire/prevail/replenish/precedant/vitality and causes them to brick, we even came up with a solution... his reply was i dont like it, come up with a better way. as it stands you guys dont have any roms that will work because lets face the facts here, the admire has a few roms and a cm7 port (cm7 should work for you tho with minor changes) but no one who has teh device is stepping up. when there is a phone yopu want work on there is only 2 things you can do, step forward and do it yourself or get someone who can the phone. that being said if someone would be so kind to join the irc channel in my signature and say my name i can make some odin tars for you guys to return back using odin just like there is for the admire... the closer to stock the better (im sure people have removed bloat and crap tho) but if i can get a clean stock rip then you guys will have a way to restore with no issues

Ok are you implying then that it is not even possible to create a nandrod backup of the samsung vitality with any app?
If it was possible I would have backed it up straight after rooting it.
He is right though when installing the sofware to create a back up there are several options but our phone is not lis5ed. I have informed them but got no reply. I was going to instal it then create a nandroid backup then reinstall it again withe next device create another back up etc etc and if one day it goes I could try ea h one and hope for the best.

with any app? no, you can use the cwm made for the admire and make a nandroid that way.
and id highly suggest against that, rom manager thinks every samsung ever flashes at bml 8 for reocvery, you guys are bml9 which means that part of your bootloader gets over written when you try to flahs cwm from rom manager, ergo no more downloa dmode no more turning on

You can now flash cwm to any r720. Forthe vitality there is a nanroid backup of a stock rom available at cricket users forum. You can also put an admire on on too or try out the cynogenmod version being developed, youll have to install new version of CWM though and the rom is not ready, I would not bother with it at the moment though.
