I can't seem to downgrade my phone to .5

Ive downloaded the sprint hero .5 ruu to be able to root, but when it tells me too Plug my phone in and I push next it just comes up with an error message saying it cant find or recognize the phone. The phone is connected via usb cable is there some setting in the phone i have to do?

Did you install HTC Sync first? You need to install that first before you run the Android 2.1 executable.

You can find HTC Sync here: htcsync2.0.35.exe

Or you can search these forums and XDA for one click root and it will root your .6 just like it did mine. I rooted and ROMd my Hero without ever plugging it into a PC. Yes downloading ROMs over 3G takes a while but it can be done.

Your going to need a recovery image first

ROM manager. You can get it off the Market. It makes things easier.
I used the one click root and then downloaded ROM Manager, Root Manager, and Root explorer. I downloaded Fresh 2.4 and installed it with ROM manager. Spend a little money with the devs for these apps because they make rooting and roming super easy.
