I got an iPhone the other day

OK,

A few days ago I went to Verizon to upgrade my phone, and yes, I decided to get an iPhone 4 8GB, now I want my droid back. There are a whole bunch I don't like about it, I'm not even going to start. Last night I went on to verizon.com and tried to reactivate my 2 year old incredible, and it said that it wasn't eligible for my unlimited data plan, and I had to pick a limited data plan. I plan on selling the iphone and getting a HTC Thunderbolt, and still want unlimited data especially with a 4G phone. How do I keep my unlimited plan?

Best thing to do is to call verizon or go into the store, when you upgraded to the iphone, did verizon allow you to keep your unlimited plan? I believe if you try doing it online, the website won't recognize that you want to grandfather in your old plan. The best thing to do is to go to a Verizon store and tell them exactly what you want to do, I believe Verizon doesn't carry unlimited data anymore, which is why the website doesn't have that option anymore.

Yep, Verizon no longer has an unlimited plan. And when you upgrade a phone that has one, they try to talk you into a new and "better" plan. But you don't have to change if you don't want to.

Online doesn't give the option to keep unlimited.
I had to get my Nexus from the store, they carried over my unlimited plan.

Online gives me the option. Sign on to My Verizon and select the 'Upgrade My Device' button. After you select the phone you want to upgrade to you get this popup:

It probably didn't work for the OP because he had just upgraded to the iPhone. Either that or because he was trying to switch phones. I've never done a 'Switch Device' on the website, only in the store. But I don't know why the plan would change unless you were switching between a Smartphone and a Feature Phone, which he wasn't. Or possibly going from 4G down to 3G, but he was switching two 3g phones.

That's weird, I got that same popup but without the unlimited plan option. I'll just go to the store and do change phones there. Sounds like it isn't an issue at the store.

Should I get a Thunderbolt. What are my other options. I want a 4G phone. Also regarding 4G coverage, when I was at the store when I got my iPhone I asked if they had a map of 4G coverage and my house was in the 4G coverage area but kinda close to the edge of non coverage. Does anybody have any experience with this map and its accuracy?

Same here, I too had the popup but unlimited wasn't an option.
Maybe they realized their error and changed it.

I think it has to do with the unlimited data with an iPhone. It's been awhile since I dealt with customer accounts but I think that package requires different features that the system isn't set up to automatically swap over for you.

Definitely go into a store or call cust service because if you are grandfathered in an unlim data plan you are entitled to keep it regardless of what smartphone you have.

The T-bolt is old news. You should consider one of the new dual-core devices. The top 3 at the moment. The Galaxy Nexus, Rezound, or the Droid razr/razr maxx. I went with the razr after weighing the pros and cons of the three devices. You should do some research and get info on all devices you're considering then make your decision. Happy hunting!

The downgrade from Android to iPhone is similar to what one experiences when going from a smartphone to a feature phone. ;)

If you really liked Sense from your Incredible, I'd go with a Rezound. It's a solid phone with a beautiful screen. I believe the price has dropped as well. Certainly would not consider a T-Bolt at this point. Remember, you'll be locked into a 2 year contract; do you really want to buy a year old phone/tech?

Also the general consensus is the Rezound has the best 4G reception of all the LTE phones Verizon has, so if your house is truly borderline, and you want LTE coverage there (wi-fi is better for battery life reasons), the Rezound will probably be the safest bet.

I think if I was in your shoes, I'd go for the RAZR MAXX, if for no other reason, the huge battery. Your are under the gun, so to speak, because you have 14 days to exchange the iPhone for a different phone.

Best of luck,

I know several people (actually 12) who went for this when Verizon came out with the older iPhone 4 for $99.00. Heck, I'll admit that even I was tempted.
I will say everyone but one person liked their Android phones much better and regret the decision.
It seems the grass isn't greener on the other side after all, at least not for Android users!:)

I used the change device feature online and had no problem swapping my wife's BB 9550 for a (used) Fascinate and keeping unlimited data.

The LG Spectrum that just came out 1-2 weeks ago is also a viable option.
