Hey all. My mom got a Thunderbolt for her upgrade. After using it for a few weeks she decided that it was "too much phone" (her words, not mine). She really isn't tech saavy. My dad has the Droid Incredible as do I. She and I were wondering if I could switch phones with her. She used my dad's phone a lot. She gets my DINC and I get her T-Bolt. Any thoughts y'all? How would we go about doing this?
 
Just call up Verizon and explain that you and her want to switch phones (I assume you're on the same plan?) and they'll help you I'm sure.

Actually, No. We're not on the same plan. I have my own plan. I get a discount on services through my work.
 
I don't see why they couldn't. I imagine it would be just like switching back to an older phone if something happens to your current phone. You could always call and ask, worst case scenario they say no.

Yeah people do this all the time, just a swap, should be easy enough.
 
no you cant do that. Thunderbolt uses a sim card, you will have to go in the store and switch out the sim. She could take over your phone but you need a new sim on your number. Once the sim is attached to a number you cant reactivate it with another number, so take a trip to the store and they will give you a new sim and activate the phone under your account and she will take over your phone.

Verizon has never said no to me if I wanna switch out a phone. They would have no reason to. I do think however she could not do this if she got the phone less then 14 days ago.

Ok, that sounds good. I think we'll go ahead and do that. I just thought of another problem. I live in San Diego where there is 4g coverage and she lives in Albuquerque, NM where there is no 4g coverage. Will my plan stay the same? Or will I have to switch plans? Right now, I have 900mins with unlimited data and text.
 
I don't know about that plan, but assuming it's like any other data plan, it should stay the same as long as they haven't moved to tiered pricing. I know for me I got an unlimited data plan and once 4G hits the Indianapolis area, I should get 4G for the same $30 a month on the family plan I'm on...I assume it'll be similar to that, but asking a rep wouldn't hurt

If you're switching between 2 accounts you might need to have her call VZW and have you added as an authorized user to do an ESN change. That way you could switch them without the hassle of having to have them call and verify her account info.
 
Yes it can be done. Go to the Verizon store and explain to them what you guys are doing. The same thing pretty much happened with me. My brother wanted my DX and when I started a family plan to add him, I took the Thunderbolt for my line, and he took the X. The only thing that they have to do is, like someone above me said, activate a new SIM card with your number attached to it. There really isn't anything more than that that needs to be done. They have done this thousands of times by now I would assume, just from people opening up other lines to get the phone. Just stop by a store and you should be in and out. Just make sure to take your mother with you, since you don't have access to her account and she would need to be present to do the swap.
