I guess I need a howto for flashing with the Pre Kitchen!

You need to copy the htc sync exe file to your computer then install it. Don't run it from within your SD Card.

If you are unsure, you can download the HTC Sync File from here as well.

i downloaded the htc sync file from your link but that error still shows up when i try to install it on my computer???

while it would be nice for HTC to correct the sync software to install the drivers the correct way.. with a work around available there's no need to get upset.. just install them manually and all will work..

I'm about to install them myself since I just bought a new laptop and it's Win7 64 (and Soooooooooooooooo much better than XP)

I would suggest trying PDAnet. I have Win 7 and it worked for me doing it with PDAnet installed.

ok i installed the pdanet .exe file you suggested me to download uptop. the install on that went smoothly. now what do i do? i can now tether via USB with pdanet. what do i do about the htc sync now?

You don't need the htc sync at this point. Not sure what you were trying to accomplish, but if it was to root your phone, you now should have the correct drivers installed. I would suggest following the guide and doing it manually.

what is the point of the HTC sync anyways??? i thought it was some software that is needed, similar to the blackberry desktop manager or something?

the only thing you need from htc sync in regards to rooting is.... the device drivers.. which can also be installed by installing PDAnet on your PC..
