:p i have a ?? about rooting there is a web site called root-android.org any way they have lifetime rooting and have all the programs.i am going to pay for the programs so its done right.i just dont want to screw it up so thats y i am going this rout just so i know i am doing it right.my ? is will rooting alow me to get rid of the stockcrap and if i root it will it work just as good as stock with the service and internet and everything like that and will i still get all the updates..its my only phone and i cant afford to screw it up any advice would be great..all i here is rooting is the way to go thanks:D

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Dont do it. All you gotta do is ask questions here. They are just some scammers trying to charge for something thats free. Dont do it, just ask people and they will help. Everybody in here is cooler than the other side of the pillow about helping.

And yes, rooting will help you eliminate unwanted bloatware.

Waste of your money. It's so easy and all the directions are in this forum no matter what phone.

I concur as well... if you are being charged by a website to give you root privledges to your phone.. then you are being scammed!

This site is most likely where they came to get the files to root your phone in the first place.

If you feel like you need to pay someone for the root privledge on your phone... keep reading in these forums and you can donate to the one(s) you thought helped the most.

I guarantee better support/community here in these threads than anywhere.

So, welcome to the community! :D

Hope we can help.

How are they going to do it anyway just send you all the files? Or do they want you to mail it to them? If they're doing something like team viewer you have to plug the phone in anyway. Apart from access to your personal info... better off to at least keep it local

Besides that ...if you decide to pay someone to do it for you.. then check your local craigslist.. I put an ad on there and get 1-2 people a week for phone rooting... I charge anywhere from $20-30 depending on how complicated it will be, etc.

Lately since I've been out of work it has been one of the only things to get me through these rough times..

I wasnt comfortable when I started reading shabby posts about rooting and the first rom that came out for our phone and I must have re-read the instructions a million txs till I could recite them! LOL!
But when I did it it went smooth! I think that I held my breath till it re-booted. That was back when Shabby made the first little script for it.
Now with all the help here and the extremes that our devs go to to made it understandable its simple!
read up and over and over till your comfortable then just do it!

yes when i started i would be nervouse and sweating hands and after READING,AND READING........... i then got the nerve up to do things and when done said why did i wait so long that was easy and just ask ?'s if not sure people will help:D:D:D

I was curious so I visited the site,it seems that for 30 bucks you can download their files to root your phone but there is no information as to possible included roms or kernayls some further looking and I found the only mod (or dev. ) mentioned is cyanogen...... nice top 10 rooted apps list though! One click root worked perfectly on my prevail and it was free!!!!

P.S. The devs here are excellent and I think every possible question has been asked and answered

Think about using Forum members work and making donations locally - we need them to continue developing.

Support here is outstanding and better to learn from friends.

BTW, I have personally reloaded ROMs around 30 times, it is simple and welll documented. Don't be afraid, stock ROMs are listed here too if you want to regress.

You all say it's easy, but when I read about it, there are at least half a dozen different steps, applets, apps, and files to download and "install" (install where?) and enough people who claim to have bricked their phones - so for the average user, rooting appears to be for an in-group of folks who are familiar with a lot of acronyms and obscure applets. I wish it DID seem easy. It doesn't.

Bill, it really is easy man.

1st - Download Odin FA19 zip file and extract to a folder on your desktop.

Odin - http://androidforums.com/galaxy-prevail-all-things-root/375550-odin-return-phone-stock-factory.html

1 1/2 - Download the CWM update - http://www.mediafire.com/?2bd3jbv7c0m9q8l
You will need to flash this once you have completed all of the steps.

2nd-Install all drivers

3rd-put phone in downloading mode. Vol down+ camera+ power. Hold all 3 down together until "Downloading" in yellow appears on the screen. Then plug you phone into the USB cable that is attached to your computer.

4th- Open Odin Multi-Downloader and click on OPS. Select the SPHM820.ops file. It is not a zip file!!

5th- Do the same for the BOOT, Phone, PDA, and CSC tabs. Click on each and select the ZIP FILE that belongs.

6th- CLICK START and wait on your phone to reboot. Once it does, you are finished.

7th- Let your phone boot up completely. Once it has, press the power button and power OFF your phone.

8th- Press volume up+ power. Hold it until you enter CWM. It may take a minute before it comes up. Keep holding the volume up and power.

9th- Use your volume rockers to scroll either up or down. Use your camera button to select and the power button to back up.

10th- Scroll down to where it says backup and restore. Press your camera button to select. It should be on backup when the screen changes. Press your camera button to select. Once your backup has completed, use your buttons to navigate and reboot your phone.

YOU NOW SHOULD HAVE A ROOTED PHONE WITH CWM INSTALLED PLUS A CWM BACKUP. :D

wetbiker, you only prove bill's point.

Download Odin? From where? Rooted phone with CWM? Dude, buy a vowel. What's a CWM, why can't you bother explaining why someone would even want it or need it as part of rooting a phone rather than replacing a ROM or whatever?

I'm sure rooting works for someone at least sometime, but I've never seen or read a really clear explanation of how to root a phone. There's always a reference to links or sites that have gone black, or cryptic acronyms and often instructions that simply don't work.

I've done technical writing and doing it unmistakably and clearly, so that anyone reading it can follow it and accomplish the task, is NOT EASY. Neither is good programming, and the professional way to do things is for one programmer and one tech writer to work together as a team until there's documentation that works--as well as a program.

Rooting? No offense, you may be a great programmer/hacker but "BUY A VOWEL!" the instructions, like all rooting instructions, just don't work all the time, and don't make any sense to someone who is reading them without a much larger education and chasing down all sorts of other links.

Here, at xda, or anywhere. Sloppy is sloppy, that's nothing to be proud of.

Is this clear enough?

http://androidforums.com/showthread.php?t=537889

Step by step. Clear. Links included.

Cwm (ClockWorkMod) recovery is included in all pre-rooted images available for the prevail.

If you want to root your phone Odin is the only way.

Odin is a tool that works with Windows that allows you to flash firmware to Samsung phones.

As of this post, all exploits for 2.3.5 (the version of android that the prevail is currently running) have been patched (to my knowledge)

Odin bypasses the need for an exploit.

While wet biker may take for granted his knowledge of the terminology, his info was correct. This is the best and only way t achieve root for this phone.

A fast look makes it seem much better than average. Although if the bikerguy's comment "You didn't mention the powering down step," is right, something important still got missed?

Sadly the search engine took me to that thread while looking for information on the root site mentioned at the top of the thread. I'm not using a Samsung phone. Yes, I know that's a Samsung Prevail section--but that isn't how I was sent to the thread, so having something constrained to Samsung, or the Prevail, isn't something I can explore in detail.

LMAO!!! If you would take the time to look through the All Things Root Section and READ though the threads, you might answer your own questions. Everything I've mentioned can be easily found if you look for it. Looks like you have nothing better but to spend your time in here complaining.

I came here with absolutely NO knowledge of Android. Just about everything I've learned, I have learned right here in this Prevail section. So what are you trying to say?? Myself along with hundreds of others can come in here and learn how to use this stuff but you can't? Grow up man and READ. I promise you'll learn something. Maybe even enough to actually help someone and answer some questions on your own. :D
