I'm highly debating purchasing this phone. So my big question is, should I?
I currently go thru virgin mobile and have a Samsung venture.

I would like to know ratings on BOTH rooted and stock.

battery life?
memory?
speed / responsiveness?
is the beats audio worth the upgrade?

cheers for the android forums, and If I do get this phone, you know ill be around.

Battery life? Below average to average. Mileage will varied depending on the apps you use and how you tweak the settings. But for most people, the battery life on this phone will last you about 5 hours on constant use. The less you use the phone, the more battery life it will have.

Memory? It's got 1GB or RAM so it's okay. Internal storage is only about 1.1GB (out of 4GB but the rest is non-usable by you. It is used by the system and reserved for system)

speed/responsiveness? It's not great but it's not bad. you get 4G wimax speed. definitely faster than 3G but it's not lightning fast. Phone is smooth and responsive for the most part. slowdowns and lag here and there if you're doing too much with it.

The audio is average at best. There is NO beats audio in this phone (though you can have it if rooted)

The phone is a lot better after rooting.

Overall score for phone (unrooted): 75/100
phone (100% rooted): 87/100

Thanks for the quick response. should i invest in a larger battery?
Also, how is the ease of rooting? with the venture, we just used poot. which was basically a one click root.

Definitely, there are larger capacity batteries that you can buy from amazon/ebay that will improve battery life significantly.

Rooting this phone is pretty easy for me. But it varies from person to person. Some people have problems with the rooting process. Some don't but if you read the guides and know how to follow instructions and use common sense, should be no problem. Plus, there are a lot of helpful people on here that are willing to spend their time helping you out until you're successful with rooting it and be able to unlock the full potential of this phone, which is awesome. :D

Here's a post I made yesterday with some good battery options from Amazon that fit the standard cover. There are also extended batteries from Seidio (and their Platinum brand) that will give you a much longer life if you don't mind the extra bulk and weight.

I went with the Laza Zcell which of course is an extended battery but couldn't be happier with it. I actually am glad I get to preserve the stock cover for the back due to the number of necessary battery pulls from time to time and the one that came with it has actually held up extremely well. Case options are limited but found a great one that I just modified myself with a sharp pair of scissors and file to smooth it out (black to be consistent) of course.

An upgraded battery is pretty much mandatory with this phone but luckily there are lots of options.

LOL da **** is this paperclip trick? who in their right mind would think of that....not saying it didnt work...but wow

sorry about the language...but that totally floored me

okay, i have ran into a road block when trying to do step two....do i need to do this step even after taking both the ota updates from the updatephone menu?
oh and my roadblock is, i cant get the cmd line to reboot me into the bootloader. it just says "waiting for device" i have restarted the device and no such luck...workaround would be to use the hard keys to boot me into it, but i dont know what the combo is.

reboot PC or try another USB port. Make sure you have JRE or JSDK installed i cant remember which

Power+Vol Down boots to the Bootloader/Recovery screen

Dude, you act fast. Just an hour ago, you said you were going to get it, and now you're already rooting it.

mis-quote....i said i was going at it, as in i was going to start the whole root process. lol. tho, the meid on the box and on the phone where two different numbers...so that was a whole freaking process.

oh, what do yall think about the mobster rom hd (non-lite)? I'm thinking about that as my first.

Is your system 64 or 32-bit? Windows? Seems like you're having a driver issue.

thanks bud, but rebooting my pc corrected the issue.
it's all good now, i just checked the bootloader screen. and i have the updated radio, but not the earlier version of the junopbear (butchered that name) but it flashed the rom i wanted to try out, and booting fine. so i guess im all good! cheers!

Mobster HD is an excellent choice as a first ROM. It's the one I recommend to all as a first. I've never used the LITE version. I like Sense :D
