I received the OTA update around 4pm today. A few added features, but all in all everything looks the same. If you feel like paying for it, the 3G mobile hot spot feature was added.

woo new jersey. when did you get your phone? is it possible they roll it out by when people get their phone?

I just went into a VZW corporate owned store in Southern California and purchased a new dinc. When the girl was setting it up for me it told her there was an OTA update. Lo and behold it was 2.2. I was expecting to get the phone and it be updated in a few weeks.

Lots of neat new things to play with (My wife has a dinc already).

One can assume you refer to rooting?

i have been able to room my phone, but how does one go about fixing the tethering w/ the new update?

or removing the bloatware, i don't want to run skyrider or another version....

you can remove bloatware through the adb shell.

If your rooted then usually astro file manager will be all you need to get the tether set up. That's how I did mine, but I see it in the market now so all you need to do is install from the market. :D

More importantly, does it fix the call quality issues?

No. Call quality is just as garbled and same dropped voices. Signal reception is better and bars equate better to dBm signal, but call quality still sucks big Oprah butt. :( Seriously

Not seeing how some of you are getting such high Quadrant scores unless rooted and overclocked with another kernel. I have used several roms and the stock kernels and never got above real low 1200's with a clean Inc and no junk on it. Even with Kings BFS kernel, I hit about 1250 and that is a more optimized kernel than stock. I average 1232 with a clean Inc. I test before and after loading a bunch of stuff to see if it impact performance. Does not seem to make a difference.

In fact, on stock kernels and Skyraider and Stock rooted 2.2, I average 1175 with no OC. King kernels and no OC I average 1233. I respectfully doubt such high scores unless an anomaly.

Tethering and WiFi hotspot are two different things.

Tethering lets you use the phone as a modem to recieve internet and use it on the connected computer.

WiFi hotspot lets you use the phone as a WiFi source for surrounding phones or computer. Like you are your own Starbucks (with limited number of connectees.)

Which this edit allows the HotSpot to do. But it also allows tethering.

MiniMike - you raise a great point! so does this mean after the update the suggested "fixes" will only allow tethering and not allow the WiFi?
