Ive heard tales that you should charge the battery of a device like this for like 8 hours regardless of whether or not it says 100 percent charged when you first get it and you do the first charge. I dont know if this is true or not. Should I just keep it plugged in all night? or once it says 100 percent complete that means its done and good to go and the battery wont suffer shorten life due to you not overcharging it?

I charged mine for 18 the first time.

just charge it till led light is green..you will be good..if that was the case..htc would say in the owners manual to leave it charging even after its fully charged..my first initial charge was til the led was green..my battery last about 12 hrs avg.

Your led does not totally mean its 100%. Mine turns green at about 96%

The phone has a "smart" charger built-in. It can not overcharge the battery. Lithium Ion batteries are very finicky when it comes to battery voltage charging. They have to stop at 4.2 volts. The phone will monitor the charging cycle until it reaches the voltage then go to float charge mode which basically keeps it topped off instead of constantly putting the battery under charging mode. When the phone's LED turns green, your phone has detected the battery at "full charge" of 4.2 volts. Just charge the phone until the LED turns green. You can leave it plugged in after that because the phone will shut off the main charge process and float charge the battery to keep it topped off at 4.2 volts.
