I'm gonna go get my Connect replaced due to the overheating issue and the horrible battery life. When I get my refurbished phone I WILL be able to still use the update tool with the suspended virtual machine? Right?

If you are referring to the virtual machine that was suspended at the point that it started downloading from LG then yes. It was suspended just after the phone version check for those with newer or refurbished phones that gave issues with the version check. If it is before the point that the download starts I've read that people have had issues with the refurbished and some newer phones (not personally confirmed).
