I love my Eris, but.....

I like my phone and it suits me perfectly.

Nope, I have nothing else to add. :D

Soon we will be changing phones like underwear.
Onion, Im with you 100%
Post quoted for Truthfulness
Well you feel thats its outdated becuase it DOES use dated hardware, plain and simple.

The Qualcomm msm7600 chipset came out nearly 2 YEARS ago and uses the ARM11 CPU core which came out MANY MANY years ago.

The Eris is basically the last phone to be made with the dated msm7600 chipset.

New phones are coming out in just a few weeks/months with new and far superior chipsets made on 45nm technology which makes the Eris a low-end smart phone. Even the low-end sector of these new chipsets will be just as fast as the Eris but have superior battery life due to 45nm.

Eris is basically 2 year old hardware. Yes you are buying dated hardware and you can clearly see so buy the sluggish performance and slow load/rendering times and of the Eris.

There is a reason why they are trying to get rid of the Eris buy giving it away for free. Eris was basically designed to dump the remaining qualcomm 7600 chipsets and other dated components HTC had in stock to make room for the 45nm units which they already have and ALREADY are Mfring the new phones with which are coming out VERY soon.

I have to ask, though....then why did you buy one?

I once had someone on a forum I moderate threaten to call the FCC (his brother works there, he says) because we were supressing his freedom of speech by Black-Holing his inflammatory posts.

it's only freedom of speach if people want to hear you. i just got done with an american government class and freedom of speach is protected if it's not inflammatory or insightful.

Because other than the Moto Droid its the only phone with capacitive touch screen. Thats all about to change once HTC releases Verizon phones with hardware that is actually up to date and not from 2 years ago like the Eris. Like I said it is the absolute LAST phone to be made with the old qualcomm msm7600 chipset. Sure the Eris is a new model phone but once the new android phones come in a few weeks/months it will look like any other 2 year old phone.

Besides, when the new phones come in a few months I will simple use the Verizon contract loop hole to get out of my contract and get the new models...

I understand what everyone is saying, I am not one to always Chase the latest and greatest, I just moved to a smart phone this year, I don't have a blu ray player and I drive a car that is 7 years old. I was just saying it is rare to buy a new phone, not one that is a year old and just new to you, bit newly released phone and then 3 weeks later the software is not supporting new apps. I know there is an update to come, bit it was just an observation.

And that loophole would be?

Yes you and I think alike it seems. We generally don't need to keep up with the Joneses, but only a few weeks after we bought the phone we feel left out of the game already. I understand we can't always be waiting for the next great thing, but I think within 3 weeks we shouldn't be experiencing this already.

most bought the phone less then a month ago

most knew the latest droid phone was running 2.0

most knew the eris was running 1.5

so that begs the question....why so srys?

I didn't do enough research. I thought the only feature I was missing was Google Nav. Had I known bluetooth was virtually non-existent, and that the Great Update wasn't going to appear in 2009, I would have stuck with my Nokia Twist until next year.

My good friend bought the Droid and got me excited about joining the smart phone realm. I don't like that phone, and I would never trade the Eris for the Droid. I'd rather hold on to the hope that one day my phone will be just as cool.

Still, I acknowledge that this obsession with the upgrade is unhealthy. I LOVE all that I can do with my phone. I don't think I have a bad phone... I just think I could have made a better decision.

It's sad really. Seeing how many people these days (not just people here) have been sucked into the "gotta have the newest" mindset by the marketing crowd. Personally, I think it has something to do with one's self-image. Why are people SO insecure that they feel the need to constantly spend money on consumer goods just so they can be seen as having the newest, neatest stuff? Do people not understand that they are being "played" by manufacturers. You want a consumer item? Find one that meets your needs, and get it. I've been in the automotive industry for years and even though I see a lot of this mindset among car buyers, it's NOTHING compared to consumer electronics buyers. Crazy!

well my thing is, this phone has more processor power (and memory) than a computer i had ten years ago. A COMPUTER!
so this phone can do most of what my computer ten years ago did (and wayyyy more!).
so im happy with the hardware. but....im in IT...i want software updates daily if possible!
i want google and verizon to be working on improving every little thing that can be improved upon :)
mine you im an only child so...that may explain why i want the constant attention :)
I WANT I WANT!!

I love my eris! :)

Obsolete or not, when something comes out after this that I want, I will upgrade or buy it straight out. I have done it all the way up to this point. Of course these phones will get old. But to me, its all a matter of preference and opinion. This phone might keep some people happy for a long time to come. Hell, plenty of people still have a basic flip phone. I still have my Nextel phone on for the Direct Connect. Who cares. If it gets old, shell out some money and upgrade. For now, be happy for this technology. We have computers in our pockets for sh*ts sake. I think we're all just spoiled!

Well, Im satisfied for now. I will wait on the updates just like every other smartphone. Im a Palm user before this, but just like all others, they receive updates.

+1, I love my phone but I also loved my old phone (LG EnV). I could've waited and researched a little more, but I was impatient. Now I'm Impatient for the update.
