Root I may have figured out rebooting issue, Esteem

I dont understand most of what your talking about, but. I just wanted to throw out there, since running gingersteem and the rom toolbox slider set max at 1.2 through 1.5 I havent had any reboots since. It runs really nice, and I owe a donation soon as I can because following you all Im learning. I also run android assistant, and have held onto cwm, titanium and maybe one other app from my ascend. None of which have conflicts since i use esteem focused as primary and others secondary. I also saw lower temps and battery usually lasts all of the work day. Again all i know how to do is abuse the power you all give me and its been awhile since bricking this one due to my own negligence. :) its all fun and games until you break gorilla glass. Bahaha
 
NO you are all wrong the rebooting is caused by the stock kernel (sounds strange I know). But when I installed mts kernel my rebooting has stopped. Is this the reason though

i think you may be correct... i cannot prove this but i have a theory...

when i first got this phone it was used, it was rooted but stock, never had a rom flashed and im pretty sure it rebooted on me once or twice like that, and i had and still have NO plan at all with metro (so never had 4g), I only use wifi lol but since i started flashing roms with the mod'd kernels i have not had the reboot happen to me at all!!! not once lol.. so you may be correct, it could be the kernel, but i have yet to have 4g on this device yet so im not sure if that will or could cause a reboot...

but if it does, than sadly i will be moving on to another device lol there no friggin way im dealing with random reboots on a 400 dollar phone

so the one thing i can think of to test it is to...

first i will upgrade to zvc, but i wont get a plan yet, ill just keep zvc for a while and do my daily usage.. if it reboots then the kernel is def the suspect...

then, if we have no reboots i will start a plan with metro and crank the 4g to its friggin limits lol then if we have reboots after that we will know what the hell the problem is lol

if anyone would like me to extend this testing method in any way please let me know!!! i would love to get to the bottom of this A.S.A.P.

No, YOU are wrong! Lol jk... Sort of... My phone randomly reboots and I'm on GingerSteem. It rebooted on stock ZVB, ZVC, and every ROM available. As the post above says, there seems to several different issues causing the reboots. I believe mine is related to 4G. Not sure though, I gave up on trying to figure it out.

ahh dammit now im confused again lol so its most likely the 4g then? because like i said i never have the reboot issue but i dont have a plan, i only use for wifi lol
 
I sent a message to shinyside to verify my idea was correct, I havent had a forced reboot since the 13th, My problem "my" problem was related to the uicc and the IPv4-IPv6 settings, when someone can verify that it fixes the reboot i am sure they will post it.
 
Everyone this is what I did. This fixed my problem.

1. Any cut

go to

1. lte configuration
2.Apn manager
3.apn protocol
4. i tested all the IPv4,IPv6, IPv4/IPv6, I do not reboot on IPv4/IPv6

Again this fixed me. And my forced reboot

What was the original setting? I didn't take note before I changed mine. :rolleyes:

My rebooting frequency has slowed dramatically since I have been running custom kernels/roms but hasn't stopped altogether. Hopefully this fixes it altogether. Thanks for posting this.
 
Thank you so much for this. I updated to zvc before & I completely agree with you;the zvc update fixes nothing and only prolongs the reboot time . I changed the settings as you said and I'm currently testing it out. Let's hope this works!!!

I havent had a forced reboot since I changed, No one that said they where trying it out has got back to me, I been testing a whole bunch of stuff but no one seems to get back to me on any of it. if you dont mind let me know. I am not on "C" but the problem is how the phone handles the speed, I have been working with LG to figure out a possible solution, but they reply once every other week. let me know how it works for you. I have noticed the homeless kernal does slow it down too but thats not my rebooting problem mine and most others is the ccid card

I *think* my phone is cured. I only recall one surprise reboot since I changed the settings & that was while I was playing a game.

Would love to see several days of uptime to confirm but the devs keep releasing new kernels etc that I need to try out :D Best I have seen is about 3 days before I manually reboot to flash something.

so after some time giving these few methods a test run i have come to a conclusion:

after purchasing the device i had to wait 30 days before activation, so i had time to test these out..

got phone on ZVB, had NO data plan through metro (NO 4G) and never had an issue with rebooting, not once

upgraded to ZVC, same results.. had no reboots what so ever.. so after downgrading back to zvb i decided to test other things to see if maybe there was a specific 'thing' causing the reboots, but after testing everything available i still had not come across any rebooting issues...

so after my 30 days were up i finally got a data plan through metro :D

soon as i got home i ran through these same tests but i noticed i wasn't getting 4g at all.. tried upgrading, downgrading again.. still nothing. i thought it was something i did so it delayed my testing a little..(turns out metro was doing tower 'work')

the day i got 4g, litterally the split secong my phone caught a 4g signal it had rebooted lol

so of coarse i downgraded to zvb, did the same tests and rebooting ONLY happened with 4g/data enabled same for being rooted with various kernels, would reboot only with 4g enabled..

Next was ZVC, results were the same!! rebooting only occured when 4g data was enabled..

so my conclusion is that 4g is without a doubt the culprit of our beloved rebooting issue :(

the only thing i cant figure out is... why...? it doesn't seem to occur while doing any specific 'thing' it seems more 'random' if anything.. unless theres something behind the scenes that im not noticing...
 
I just purchased the phone two weeks ago(was really waiting for the LG Connect but I am a bit of OCD when it comes to my phones and I was getting fed up with the crappy, creaky physical buttons on my HTC MyTouch 4G), anyway, I haven't once noticed a reboot while on 4G, I have been testing this problem as well because, again I am a bit OCD when it comes to my phones and if I reboot you can bet Im taking the phone back, I havent been using WiFi while at the house and Im always using data so no reboots while strictly on 4G, also in areas where signal is a bit iffy going from 1x to 3G and 4G, not a single reboot. Perhaps the hardware thing, if indeed it was a hardware "bug" has been fixed in newer handsets, what hardware version is everyone using that has been getting reboots?

well like i said, im not sure 'why'.. it only happened to me about 4-5 times total during the 3-4 weeks of testing lol but the ONLY time it did happen was when i had 4g, i never had a reboot at all when had no plan...

so maybe some how some way you just lucked out lol or maybe hardware like you said.. but that means there are literally 1000's of these things out there with the same hardware bug... this is my second esteem with the same problem so i cant seriously just be 'that; un lucky of a person... can i? lol

I feel you on that, maybe I did get lucky, but if there are that many people out there with the reboot problem then I cant be that lucky, maybe LG snuck out a revised hardware and just now getting to stores:confused:

I have been working with LGE and I have a chat meeting and phone meet tomorrow with them, the phone rebooting problem as far as I and they have seen is the Uccid " basicly how the phone takes its data. I cant promise anything but I have been testing alot of things on "ZVB, ZVC. " I have yet to test ZVA, But I believe... the the problem :updating, dont disconnect" from zva was fixable by other means which is why I am trying to get a copy of it.

but the fix from zba was screwed up and the code for the update via phone was deleted causing a time out and crash.

the Manufacturing date is not a problem its what reversion of software they used to patch zba,
 
Then I guess I am lucky then because like I said before I havnt noticed a single reboot yet on ZVC.

EDIT: Meant to post before but I noticed I am on Hardware Version: Rev.1.1 I noticed from pictures posted on the forums is running Rev.1, so there had to be a hardware change somewhere....

Can you ripe your OS for me and put it in a dropbox and link it? I am trying to get good and bad copies, I cant seem to get a hold of a good non rebooting copy of c, or a copy at all of a
