Root I must be the dumbie rock on the block

I have spent the better part of 2 days trying to ROOT this darn thing. Now I am not usually dumb with tech products but nothing I do seems to work.. I even found a video online .. and followed it but nothing I do seems to work ...

I got the info onto the SD card and verified it is the correct items via the website that shows what should be on the SD card...turned off the nook, inserted into the nook , plugged into the computer.. got the mess new hardware .. x thru that and then got another message asking to add drivers.. I cancelled through that.. and then waited and waited and waited and NOTHING.... I waited for over 30 min. with no response on the nook.. so unplugged pulled the SD card and then booted .. and we are just the SAME.. checked the EXTRA site and nothing there either..

Did I miss a step or am I just too stupid to figure this out ???

Yes to both.. updated to 1.01 and auto nooter... but I must be doing something wrong... I looks right but nothing happens on the unit

I don't usually have tech problems but there must be something I am not doing to cause this. but can't for the life of me figure it out... I even reformated the sd card and re did it flashed it.. but nothing happens.

will give it a go tomorrow.. Thanks for the suggestion... Yes the process of how to get the unzipped file onto the card is where I think I am having a problem.. but the card shows the right files but maybe they are corrupted...

will start all over again from the beginning .. I know this shouldn't be that hard to do..

Have you followed these directions?

NookColor Rooting - nookDevs

You MUST use a specific app to create a disk image on the sdcard. Different instructions might recommend different software but it all does the same thing. The above link points you to Win32DiskImager (if using a Windows computer). You do not just copy and paste the files on to the sd card.

I don't know if this is your problem, but I would say that might be the most confusing part of the whole process for some people.

SUCCESS..... I was making it way more complicated then it was.. and doing tooo many steps to get the info... Thanks for all your info and guidance.. HURRAY... now I have a GORGEOUS Tablet and ereader... HURRAY !!!!!

Thanks for the update. I always like reading the "I'm so happy" posts! :D

Android Dev community rocks!

I want to be happy too! I download the auto-nooter, and the winimage and whenever I try to read or write the auto-nooter file an error #8 pops up. The weirdest thing is that auto-nooter icon shows a PDF.

I'm not real techie, I had rooted a NC before "no idea as to how I got it to work...scared the s**t out of me, didn't follow up properly."

Showing it to a friend the NC started clearing data when I tried to open hotmail read all the follow-ups and got it back to factory setting, strngely it kept booting up with 2 options. One went to B&N, the other to a droid homepage.

Unfortunately I returned that NC, and played with a Coby 7015. Now I've repurchased a NC, and want to root and keep...sorry for the long winded post/reply.
HELP!

Re-download autonooter (you may have had a bad download), uninstall and re-install winimage (just for good measure), and try again.

I had the same problem but finally got it to work.

1) Make sure that you right click on the program that you are using to write the image and run it as an administrator.
2) Place the autonooter file on the c:\ drive and not in any other directories. I read somewhere that this can cause this issue as well depending on the formatting of the directory name.

Hope this works for you too...
