I must have the Note 4

Phases

NO LONGER ADMIN
..ok, that's not true. I love my Note 3 and I can't upgrade for a while, but I did watch the unveiling and loved it. I'm jealous of the screen, camera and S pen functions. The camera at least. Mostly I'm just all about the whole package of the Note series, so my 3 is fine and even the 2 was great - BUT I do use the heck out of the camera so any improvement on that is great in my book.

...as well as battery improvements. ;)

..screen too.

Heh

Not for me. I'm disappointed. Totally.
My oneplus one cost less than half want my n3 did. But it's equal in performance and design is miles better.
N4 isn't blowing me away to 'upgrade' loosely.

The Note 3 is still more than fine, so if I had a Note 3, would not bother upgrading. I thought the same with my S4 and did not upgrade to the S5 (the wimpy 16GB only version really killed it).

Seems a LOT more bloat that surprises me in a negative way. Battery life will be (as expected) the same as the Note 3. They touted 7% better than the Note 3, but that is probably ideal lab test conditions and not real world.

If the Note 3 is dropped to $500 new, I will get the Note 3. The Note 3 is easily rooted and willing to bet the Note 4 will not be. Samsung is STILL trying in vain to get enterprise business, so will be certainly locked down.

Improved everything? Plus icons and notifications on the edge of the phone? I want the Note Edge something BAD! And it comes to Verizon next month!

:D

The display seems a functional gimmick IMO and would appear to increase potential for cracks. What is the non curve display size? I would rather have at least a 5" display and not have a gimmicky curve taking up space. In a way, this is worse than a navigation bar and could FORCE people to use Wiz, unless they give the proprietary structure to devs outside of their circle.

The largest Dutch tech forum states it is going to cost 800 euros (that is 1050 US dollars) :saint:
The Edge will not be in store here.

Unless the media is wrong, they appear to be saying both devices are releasing in the US. The media wrong?? ;)

Yes, it the Edge is coming to the US this year, but will cost even more than the Note 3 and is a wider device. Pass :) The Note 4 is bigger than the Note 3 as well.

From Phandroid:

A specific release date for both the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge has not been revealed, nor has Samsung announced pricing for either device. What we do know is that the Note 4 will launch globally, and the Note Edge will be available in select markets including the US. All four major US carriers — Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile — plan to launch both editions of the phone. U.S. Cellular will launch the Galaxy Note 4, as well.

Best be saving some $ for the Edge, since will cost about as much as having Edge play a personal guitar performance for you ;) The Edge will rival the 128GB iPhone 6 for cost. The 6 might be cheaper.

I'm going old school and getting the Note 3, since a lot cheaper than either new device (especially Edge), same battery life, performance and is actually SMALLER than the Note 4. The Edge is bigger than the Note 4, BTW. The guitar player is WAY bigger!

Was just reading the specs on this device and this thing (depending on the market) could very well be more powerful than my own computer. Plus the storage capabilities of this device. Definitely an interesting new device but I don't personally forsee getting it chiefly because I would never expect to see it on my carrier

I think most of us are getting the 805 version. The 64bit chip would be nice, if as CPU powerful as the A7.

I would like to have it, but it'll cost a lot. And I dont want an expensive phone to be stuck on Boost Mobiles service, asuming that they get it. To have a phone like that you will need some service like T-Mobile, or AT&T. (Not saying they are good at all).

Now is the time to cheap out. In 5 years I probably wont have school to deal with so I can get whatever there is in 5 years. Probably be better that the note 4 anyway.

I will be buying the Note 4, Exynos 5433 looks like a beast.

Hopefully it will be more widely available but the snapdragon version looks decent as well.

Lots of good things about this device, the only down side is touchwiz

I'm pretty excited to get this. It'll be a huge jump for me from the Note 2. My only gripe is the lack of water resistance. I thought it would be a sure thing :/.

I would never buy an expensive phone that's tied to an MVNO. Especially a CDMA phone.

I don't know what coverage you have in your area, but if affordability is key, the upcoming Nexus may very well be a phablet and would be much more affordable than the Note 4.

As for the topic at hand, this new phone looks nice. I've considered switching back to one of the Big 4(probably T-Mo) and getting a subsidized device. I think this would be the one. Not the Edge though, that just looks gimmicky.

Sorry but cpu wise arm chips have a LONG way to go before we are just using them for everything :P.

here is a post describing that back in 2002 a single core amd chip was hitting over 2300MFlops How many MFLOPS can your CPU/platform manage? - Ars Technica OpenForum compared to my nexus 5 running linpack getting 333 multithreaded.

x86 and x64 have a massive change in the instructions set that allow them to be worlds faster.

Yeh, for playing games worlds faster. :p

Is there much anything else that an average non power user might need such high powered CPUs for? like word processing, calculating the tax return, doing Facebook, listening to music, etc. that cant just as easily be done on a low powered ARM CPU instead? Most people I see using PCs are using MS Office 2003, and I don't think that really benefits from an uber fast CPU.

I just signed up for the notification on Sprint. I've had my Note 2 since launch and it's definitely starting to show it's age. If I had the Note 3 I'd probably wait but coming from the 2 I'm for sure getting this bad boy! I'm not interested in the edge gimmick though. Hopefully they won't stick us with the 16gb option. It'll also be fun to be back on the forums talking about it too!

Another aspect from the hardware side though is 64bit chips (even if 32bit OS platform). The A7 plays CPU heavy MAME games like Dead Or Alive + arcade smooth on the Air, but the same game is a herky jerky mess on the A6, Octa chips and the 805. The GPU does not see much advantage, but the CPU does big time.

MAME is compiled pretty much the same on the Android and iOS, so not an issue of one being more efficient. Especially since the A6 on iOS also is slow with MAME games like DOA.

I am a big emulator fan and looking forward to Android devices with 64bit chips. The GPU does not matter with emulators. The one exception is Dolphin, since even worse- it is CPU and GPU heavy.

Added:

Wonder when we will see the first high end 64bit Android device by a carrier? Maybe the "S6" and "G4".

After seeing the hands on videos, the Edge is more than just a gimmick! The Edge is going to be very useful and it's innovative. Those thinking it's a gimmick is not open to new ideas. Free your mind from the constrictions and embrace this new design because this is the future now!

Don't like it,but I don't think it's a gimmick as I'm sure some users will find it useful.

But I don't, we already have a notification bar and notification light so I don't see the point in bending the edge of the screen which could have been otherwise but used for something else.

Coming from the Note 3, I think I will see what prices are like next July when my contact is up for renewal, instead of buying it outright like I did with the Note 2/3. For me the best feature would be the camera, and tbh it's not enough for me to buy it outright, nice phone for you Note 2 owners ready for upgrades, nice phone indeed!

I can't wait :D I skipped the disappointing, IMO, GS5 for this and I am overall happy with what Samsung have done, I cannot wait to have it in my hands :)
