Root I need help please

If someone could please help me ,I messed with my eris a few months ago and I probably shouldn't have because I don't know what I'm doing . I don't know if it's rooted or what . I have superuser permission app and I do run the wireless tether app .the thing is I'm getting a new phone and i want to send my eris in for the trade in value but not sure if I can . How can I know if my phone is rooted ? Any help would be so appreciated .thanks in advance

You're rooted. Wireless tethering won't work without root access.

So is there a way to take it back to stock so I can get the trade in credit ? From what I've read you can't send in a rooted phone ,is this true ?

It's probably not a good idea, no.

I've moved this to the Eris' All Things Root section, where someone should be able to help you un-root it

Flash this ROM: [ROM][10/20/2010]FlashBack21 v1 -Return to Factory Stock - UPDATED - xda-developers

It will bring the phone back to stock 2.1 and remove root.
