I need help, wanting to root don't know where to start

OK I will give you the full process and then let me know

Boot to recovery
Go to Partitions menu
Format boot
Format system
Format cache
Format data
DO NOT FORMAT SD CARD

Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Go to advanced, press it, wipe Dalvik cache (do this 3 times), then press back

Flash AOSP 9.9.2 rom

Flash Gapps

You should of downloaded to your SD card, or to your PC to your SD card, use the scroll ball and scroll through the SD card, it has to be in the root of the SD card

NP and enjoy your new toy, need anything else just ask, it will be a learning curve, I would also download , Fancy widget and launcher Pro from the market, they are both a must IMO, one is a clock and weather widget and the other is an amazing launcher to replace the ADW that comes with it

OK, one quick question..I didn't feel like making a new thread so I'll just post it in here

Everything is working WONDERFULLY so far...except voicemails. when i get a voicemail it send me an SMS and gives me a number to call. Is this just how it is or is there something else i need to do?

I did a quick search and didn't find anything on the forum about it.
 
I am not sure if it will work, but simply create a Nandroid and then flash it, if it does not work properly you can always Nandroid back ;)

Flashed my samsung captivate love life. but now all my friends want beefed up phones. Do you download nandroid from the market to the backup? does titanium work at all for the hero?

Nandroid is the backup/restore feature in the recovery you are using. No need to download anything just access it from recovery.

Yes, titanium backup works just great with the Hero :)
 
OK, i went the google voice route but i'm having some issues...i started a thread in the applications forum but i figure it wouldn't hurt asking here either..


long story short, i set it up called the * number, got the greeting message and everything was cool.

called cell from house number, VM never picked up, called VM from cell, VM picked up, i navigated the settings and exited out

Called cell again from house number and got a "phone has been disconnected" message


anyone have any ideas?
 
Umm I will defer this the MHC as this is his specialty and I use Youmail for my service still, but you need to make sure your cell number is forwarded to GV service for your VM, and you did not have to get a new number, you could of actually used your actual cell number when you signed up. I am sure MHC or someone will have a solution for you. If not in the meantime you can give Youmail a shot it is free also and if you have issues I can help you there ;) This will show you a small video on both Youmail and GV
