Help I NEED MORE SPACE. Please help.

daivik

Android Enthusiast
I've got the Desire and the 1Ghz processor is still sooooo fluid and works a charm... the ONLY downside and things that really is annoying me now is space on my phone.

I've moved all apps I can to the SD and well I am really thinking about upgrading to a Galaxy S II or a Sensation (but 90% GSII) because HTC have cut corners on hardware, that I think will make the phone not as future proof.

Anyway, not sure if it's worth it seeing as it's only a 0.2Ghz upgrade and 2Ghz will probably be out by year-end.

So what i'm asking is, is what can i do to free up space??? because at the moment...I can't even select/view a message because it says "unable because storage is full"

It just seems a waste to upgrade to something that, is much better, but it's not really that necessary.

So ideas?

The sensation is dual core, so its a 0.2Ghz + 1.2 Ghz upgrade, not simply a .02 Ghz Upgrade.

That doesnt necessarily mean it will be twice as fast, but once android catches up, it should be able to process twice as much information in teh same time frame as a 1.2Ghz single core (which is still more powerful than the desire

I'd have the sensation over the SGS2 anyday. I dont like samsung build quality.

What corners do you think HTC have cut? Where did you get that information? Link please

Errmmmm everywhere. :p I personally do/did prefer the HTC "round-curvey" build because thin-ness has never been a "selling point" for me...so long as the phone does what I need it to do.

2 main ones. just search on the forums but it basically boils down to

*Display
HTC Sensation : 4.3-inch SLCD 540 x 960 pixel resolution [Gorilla Glass]
Samsung Galaxy S 2 : 4.27-inch Super AMOLED Plus 480 x 800 pixel resolution [Gorilla Glass]

*Processor
HTC Sensation : 1.2 GHz Qualcomm MSM 8260 Dual-core
Samsung Galaxy S 2 : 1.2 GHz XMM6260 Dual-core

*Camera
HTC Sensation : 8-megapixel back with autofocus, dual-LED flash, VGA 1.3-megapixels front
Samsung Galaxy S 2 : 8-megapixel back with autofocus, single-LED flash, 2-megapixel front

*RAM
HTC Sensation : 768 MB
Samsung Galaxy S 2 : 1024 MB

*Internal Memory
HTC Sensation : 1 GB
Samsung Galaxy S 2 : 16GB

*Weight
HTC Sensation : 148 grams (5.22 ounces)
Samsung Galaxy S 2 : 116 grams (4.09 ounces)

*Size
HTC Sensation : 126.1 x 65.4 x 11.3 mm
Samsung Galaxy S 2 : 125.3 x 66.1 x 8.49 mm

*Battery
HTC Sensation : 1520 mAh
Samsung Galaxy S 2 : 1650 mAh
the 1Gb of space...on such a powerful phone. it's a real shame. (which will get cut down to 700 or 800 once android and sense is on there)

Battery is smaller than the GSII and processor of the sensation is based off the last generation A8 meaning less power and less power efficiency (with my desire ATM, i'm having to turn off all the cool "connectivity" stuff that I love about android coz my battery won't last.

the screen is qHD which is supposed to be amazing but Super AMOLED PLus has 50% increased sub pixels giving the appearance of more pixels.

Android is also native to 800 x 480 res, not qHD so apps are going to stretched (they will be update of course but how long will that take) it will only degrade the beauty of the 4.3" screen.

and for me storage space is the big one because it's not enough where as GSII has 16GB, 11GB your you to use and an extra 2GB for apps alone. :)

And lastly is the RAM which is approx 500-550MB when sense is on there, and apparently it's a older type of RAM. IT just seems a shame to bottle neck the 1.2Ghz power.

Finally my last issue is that Sense 3.0 is very UI heavy meaning it's going to be using the GPU a lot more and seems very battery-draining. And there's a locked boot loader so your not going to be able to change it any time soon.

I mean the choice is yours depending of what type of user you are, but internally, (even if the rumours of the Sensation having 16GB internal memory) out-competes the Sensation.

Just seems the GSII will last me well over a year, whereas the Sensation will last a year at most before it lags and gets slow.

For an extra 10mb of internal memory, unistall all the map updates if you dont use stuff like latitude or 3d maps.

Android 2.4 will support higher resolutions apparently.

Not sure theres much in that tbh

*Camera
HTC Sensation : 8-megapixel back with autofocus, dual-LED flash, VGA 1.3-megapixels front
Samsung Galaxy S 2 : 8-megapixel back with autofocus, single-LED flash, 2-megapixel front

Sensation wins for the main camera

*RAM
HTC Sensation : 768 MB
Samsung Galaxy S 2 : 1024 MB

More RAM in the SGS, but it depends on the overhead of the samsung UI

*Internal Memory
HTC Sensation : 1 GB
Samsung Galaxy S 2 : 16GB

1GB, upto 500 apps. How many more will you be installing?

*Weight
HTC Sensation : 148 grams (5.22 ounces)
Samsung Galaxy S 2 : 116 grams (4.09 ounces)

Yes all that cheap plastic makes samsung a bit lighter :)

*Size
HTC Sensation : 126.1 x 65.4 x 11.3 mm
Samsung Galaxy S 2 : 125.3 x 66.1 x 8.49 mm

Meh

*Battery
HTC Sensation : 1520 mAh
Samsung Galaxy S 2 : 1650 mAh

Depends how each device uses battery and the volting of the kernel really. A 500 bhp car is not necessarily faster off the mark than a 450bhp car

Well RAM and processing are 2 different things

To each their own really. Not sure its as clear cut as you think though

true true. Don't think there's ever gonna be an outright winner

It make Sense for 2.4 to support higher res.

Although for me, the Sammy does it, seeing as I've got a Desire, the Sensation will pretty much be the same, "feeling wise" but just a little bigger, and I fancy a change.

That's fair enough. Got a year left model. Dont use sense so not sure where I'll be :)

Hmmm. Think this will be my cunning plan to create the space for the upgrade to gingerbread. Normally got about 15 - 20mb free, which will not be enough. There are quite a few which offer the option to un-install updates - so thought here is to run through them to see how much I can get, before deleting any apps. Once gingerbread is on, then I'm expecting to be able to update them again through the market.
