Root I need some help

pwsparky

Newbie
I am in need of some help. I want to root my DROID 1 and i am pretty much illiterate when it comes to tech stuff like rooting and the whole command prompt stuff on the computer. If anyone is willing to help I would be thrilled, but i would need a very detailed list and links of what I would need to do. I really want this for the wireless tethering. Please help. like I said before DROID 1 2.2.1

Everything you need is in http://androidforums.com/droid-all-...de-updated-december-11th-2010-2-00pm-cst.html - I suggest that you read through it entirely twice and then get everything setup to do it.

Some folks will point you to a 1 click root option - it has a very high success rate (well above 90% IIRC) but there is a chance it can mess up - and there is just as much of a chance that you can mess up going the manual way.

At this point, I suggest manual b/c a lot of the concepts you'll learn in the process you'll use again later on if you decide to use alternate ROMs, kernels, themes, etc.

The moment you can, MAKE A BACKUP! I can't count the number of people on here who have tried to load a ROM or kernel and didn't have a backup to fall back on when things went south. And without a backup, they WILL.

+1 ^^^ this. When I rooted, I had to install busybox the manual way. I had to install my first custom recovery the manual way. I am very glad to have learned everything else I learned because of that.
