Root I need some serious help with ClockWork Mod!

OK, so I am contemplating installing the CWM on my phone so that I can TRULY do whatever the hell I wanna do on my phone. I have read the tutorial several times and have even checked out a video, but there's one serious problem: I AM A COMPLETE n00b!!! and don't understand half of what is in front of me.

I am extremely worried about bricking my phone and losing everything. But at the same time, I'm not too content with sitting on a rooted phone with so many possibilities, but no resources. Can anyone provide me assistance? I know that I've been a nuisance these past few days, but what are ya gonna do? ://

It really isn't that hard to install cwm. As long as you follow the install guide step-by-step, you really shouldn't have any issues.

If you can root with an apk, you can run this method.

Install the latest ministro II from the play store. Download and install the LGOE_Noob.apk from the above link. Install the OE_NOOB apk with a file manager, Run the Noob app, it will install the new cwm. Boot to it with the Quick boot app. Make a backup first thing and profit...

Edit, you will need to have 'unknown sources' checked in the settings > applications menu, to install the Noob.apk (just like installing any apk not from the play store).

Any specific questions? If you follow this then you shouldn't have any problems.

Install the latest ministro II from the play store. Download and install the LGOE_Noob.apk. Run the Noob app, it will install the new cwm. Check the /etc directory for the install-recovery.sh file, if there rename it to install-recovery.sh.bak. Boot to it with Quick boot. Profit

It? Cwm?

Cwm is just a recovery it won't change your OS. But it is good practice to run titanium every so often.

Can I back up my contacts, text message, and dialer apps? Or will CWM automatically replace those?

Installing cwm doesn't delete anything. Now if your gonna flash a rom then your texts messages and apps are gonna be deleted but your contacts are always backed up by google sync .

One last question: how do I do a quick boot?

Quick boot is an app that allows you to reboot, boot to recovery or bootloader, or power off. Recovery, is cwm. If it worked and you get to cwm, first thing make a backup. If you have a microSD card, just select backup, if you don't, select backup to internal memory.

FYI, if you make a backup to the internal, never wipe internal memory. Also if you flash a rom, and you don't factory reset/wipe data (in cwm), you won't lose apps, data, or texts. I dont recommend it, but you could just wipe cache, davlik cache, and format system. More info, after you have cwm on your phone, NEVER factory reset from the phone settings menu.

OK, I don't wanna annoy you guys, so I'm just gonna say what I'm doing and you guys can critique.

I'm not too saavy with any of this stuff. I moved my aDownloader to the SD card by mistake. I really don't care about any of my apps, so I'm simply gonna press the "Backup!" button for all of my apps. If I lose them, I can always download them again. I am then gonna download the apk and get the ball rolling.

When I go into Quick Boot, do I go into recovery or just power off?

That is the last step, to boot to the recovery with quick boot. It is to verify the cwm recovery installation, and to backup everything. This backup can be used to recover your phone should it become not bootable due to modding, or if you just don't like what you flashed to.

A backup with titanium is nice so you don't have to redownload your apps, you can reinstall them from titanium. Don't forget to download ministro II fro the play store also, the cwmnoob.apk needs it to run.

I still have the Ministro II app from when I rooted a few days ago so I'm good there. They are considering the Google Play store a user app. Do I back that up too?

What apps should I NOT back up? I'm being very selective about what I backup because I don't have space for all of it. And when do I have to rename that file?

Just backup apps that have user data, like games that save your progress. You can just download the other apps again from the store. Don't backup any system apps.

Ohhhhhhh ok, I see! And earlier in the thread, the guy that gave me the apk said that I'd have to rename install-recovery.sh to install-recovery.sh.bak
