Hey all, I am trying to tether my iconia to my mopho for the first time, when I turn on my hotspot on my mopho it says my iconia is connected, but the signal bars on my iconia are gray, not blue, like normal. What am I doing wrong? I have never used tethering before, do I need to call sprint to activate it? It says I'm connected but It isn't working. Any help Would be appreciated.

I have used my Samsung galaxy S to create a Mobile Access point which the A500 sees as another wireless network and I connect to it the same. I didn't have to do anything different on the A500, just select the wifi network and put in my password. Not sure what you mean by grey instead of blue signal bars, is that the same as no signal? Is it possible that your phone's 3G connection isn't good so that the A500 can't access the net even though it's connected to your phone?

BTW, you do need a data service on your phone for this mobile AP thing to work, but you knew that right? Can you access the net on your phone?

The blue/Grey bars are for the wifi signal on the A500. When wifi is connected and has a signal then the wifi icon is blue. When then is no wifi connection its Grey.

I just told my phone (HTC Desire) that it was now a Wifi hotspot, turned on the tablet and selected the wifi settings and searched for a wifi, it found my phone, asked for a password, and connected. It should be that simple.

I also do that but my incredible is rooted . I thought it had to be for the wireless teether to work.

My Samsung Galaxy Fit, which has Froyo also does tethering without rooting.

In this connection (though this may not be any real help to the OP) I noticed something very odd today. I was traveling today and while waiting at the airport, I found something strange happening to the A500.

The A500 picked up the free wifi that the airport offers (two different services). I ignored those and wanted to connect (by wireless tethering) to my phone (aforementioned). While the A500 saw the connection, it refused to connect. It went into the loop of connecting/ disconnecting. Nothing I tried worked. The when I boarded the aircraft, I tried again - this time there were no other wifi connection available except for the tethering with my phone and the A500 connected seamlessly.

Very strange. So, it looks like when there are two or more wifi options, the A500 has a problem connecting - this is the first time I noticed this!

Any ideas why?

Thanks in advance.

Never noticed any problems of that sort, I have sometimes 4-5 Wifi networks available at home, and I have no problems.
I haven't tried to use the mobile hot spot as a first choice at home though....

I have used my phone hotspot at home with my usual wifi router working and didn't have any problem connecting.
I was having problems creating an account for a seagate goflex net and thought I'd try a different IP address, in case you're wondering why anyone would use mobile AP when an ADSL wifi is available.

One quick and easy thing you can try is to use the reset pin by the USB connection. It will reboot, then do it again once you are at your Iconia desktop. If perhaps that does not work, contact your phone company's tech support.

The blue/Grey bars are for the wifi signal on the A500. When wifi is connected and has a signal then the wifi icon is blue. When then is no wifi connection its Grey.

I kind of thought the blue/gray was something to do with signal strength. Mine shows up gray, even thought it says its connected on my phone as well as my Iconia. Should I call sprint about it? Do I have to ask then to "activate" the hotspot feature?

Thanks for the replies everyone, I am out of town where there is very poor phone signal and the only Wi-Fi is McDonald's. I'll check back on this thread again soon.

I also had this happen on my trip. It kept trying to connect to the airport but I just selected ignore for the airport Wifi and then it picked my Phone right up.

I don't remember being presented with an option "to ignore". I'll try that again the day after tomorrow when I will be passing through that airport again and will report back.

It depends where you press on the network.I think if you press on the little signel icon that will give you the other menu.
