STEP 1: DOWNLOAD
Download both the PC36IMG.zip and the S-On Tool to your PC Desktop. DO NOT EXTRACT
(NOTE: Make sure the file is named PC36IMG.zip exactly. Some Windows OS hide any extensions by default; so make sure it is not named PC36IMG.zip.zip when you rename it.)

STEP 2: MICRO USB
Connect your device to your PC with the Micro USB cord.

STEP 3: DISK DRIVE
Chang your charging options to Disk Drive.
Menu > Setting > Connect to PC > Default Connection Type > Disk Drive > Done

STEP 4: S-ON TOOL TO SDCARD
Transfer unrevoked-forever-son.zip to the ROOT of your SDCard.
(Do not transfer the PC36IMG.zip yet)

STEP 5: TURN OFF DEVICE
Power down the device by holding the Power Button for 2 seconds. Allow it to shutdown completely. Wait about 10 seconds before next step.

STEP 6: RECOVERY MODE
Hold down VOL DOWN + POWER until device boots into a White Screen.
Move to RECOVERY by using the VOL DOWN toggle and select by using POWER button.

STEP 7: FLASH ZIP
Select unrevoked-foreverson.zip in the selection area and press POWER button to complete the FLASH.

STEP 8: IS S-ON, ON?
When the FLASH is complete, Reboot the device into the Bootloader screen by holding down VOL + POWER until it boots into the White Screen. Check to make sure it says S-ON on the TOP. If it does, select RECOVERY with the VOL DOWN toggle. (continue to step 9)

If it says S-OFF, repeat STEPS 5 - 7 until it says S-ON.

STEP 9: TURN OFF DEVICE
Power down the device by holding the Power Button for 2 seconds. Allow it to shutdown completely. Wait about 10 seconds before next step.

STEP 10: RECOVERY MODE
Hold down VOL DOWN + POWER until device boots into a White Screen.
Move to RECOVERY by using the VOL DOWN toggle and select by using POWER button.

STEP 11: TRANSFER PC36IMG.zip TO SDCARD
Connect the MICRO USB Cord. There is an option for this in both the Amon RA and Clockwork recovery.
Transfer the PC36IMG.zip to the ROOT of your SDCard.

STEP 12: UNHOOK USB FROM PC + USB OFF
SAFELY remove the USB from the PC and then turn OFF USB in Recovery.

The Device will check for the PC36IMG.zip and then ask you YES/NO to apply the newly introduced update. Press VOL UP = YES or VOL DOWN = NO.
Once Completed, press VOL UP to reboot.

what is you hboot?

well now i have a different problem.
i figured out that since i turned s-off using revolutionary, im gonna try revolutionary's s-on tool. BAM!!! it worked.
but my hboot would not change and my evo 4g is still rooted.
my hboot version is 6.17.0001.
after flashing the pc36img.zip file ruu to my phone it looked like factory but superuser and rom still worked perfectly.
im thinking somethings wrong.
turns out i still had amon ra's recovery on my phone. so i just decided to try and update my htc software and my phone froze and took me to recovery.
so i just did a reboot and then it wouldnt get off the start up screen. like a brick.
i just went back into recovery and installed cyanogenmod 7 to try and be a full working rooted phone and get s-off again. so i hooked it up to revolutionary and it says my s-off is already s-off but on my phone it says s-on!!!
i'm so confused. i just want to completely put my phone back to stock but i cant. :( i've been trying for three days and i cant find anything.

ok so you need to follow steps 7-12 in the unrooting section of the guide i linked to you earlier. basically you need to run the latest ruu to get you stock recovery, rom, and hboot.

my phone just isnt installing anymore zips from recovery or letting me update PC36IMG.zip files from hboot. :/ no matter if its revolutionary s-on tool or ruu. i think i'm screwed. :(

How do I know which ruu.exe I need because I tried one and it didn't work. I tried flashing a ruu.zip inbrecovery and it didn't let me. It keeps aborting the install. I even try to keep installing a clockworkmod recovery from rom manager and it keeps staying at amon ra v.2.3
At this point I just want to run a ruu but keep it rooted just to make it appear stock. But the phone doesn't let me either on .exe or PC36IMG.zip. so Idk. If someone can please help I'd much appreciate it.

Run an RUU of 4.53.651.1 the flash a PC36IMG.img that conatains the 2.16.001 HBOOT in your bootloader(Fastboot).
Your done!

you guys think i should make a video?
because nothing seems to be working. :( i cant neither flash PC36IMG.zip files from bootloader, nor from recovery, nor update from .exe. :/ those are the only ways and none of them work. i'm like stuck with cyanogenmod6. i can flash cyanogenmod7 from recovery just not an ruu. idk why.

please answer these questions

1.what happens when you run the PC36IMG file?
2.we need to know if it asks you to update or not? or does it say wrong image among other things?
3.are you sure you are naming it correctly? it needs to be exactly PC36IMG and nothing else. if you are using windows, it will hide the extension by default so make sure that you do not add an extra .zip to the end.
4.are you placing it on the root of the sd card? that means not in any folders
5.which ruu have you tried again?

so i finally just got gingerbread. i installed it using amon ra's recovery and flash zip. :/ its pretty stock-ish and all but not what i was hoping for since i been trying for the past 5 days or so now.
i downloaded so many ruu's and all of them were perfectly named "PC36IMG". i have windows and i know i dont need to add the ".zip" at the end. and yes on the root of the sd card. i dont know which ruu's exactly.
when i named them PC36IMG i went into bootloader and it would load the PC36IMG, then when it would finish loading it would say checking image or checking PC36IMG i dont remember which exactly but basically the same thing.
then i would just go right back into bootloader. no error message, no do you want to update, nothing. just right back to bootloader like i never even had a PC36IMG on my sd card. :/ thats what was so confusing to me. i think its because i have s-on.
its confusing because my phone has superuser when i format all user data and cache and dalvik from recovery. its still there. so i go to market and update it and it updates perfectly. but then it asks to update su binary and it says it wont work since my phone is still s-on. but i keep trying revolutionary s-off tool and it says its s-off.

phone stats:
android version 2.3.3
baseband version 2.15.00.11.19
software number 4.22.651.2

bootloader stats:
supersonic evt3 ship s-on
hboot-6.17.0001
microp-041f
touch panel-atmel224_16ab
radio-2.15.00.11.19 (why is radio and baseband always the same thing?)
mar 8 2011, 17:02:15
the dates wrong. :/ todays halloween. and its 11:36p

oh, for the record, when i flashed gingerbread, i also had to download radio 2.15.00.05.02.
when i flashed it on amon ra's recovery it said to reboot the phone so i did, and it looked like it was updating/downgrading since its a lower radio, but i still have radio 2.15.00.11.19. is something truly wrong with my phone or is it just smart enough to know not to downgrade or am i the stupid one for doing something wrong?
the phone works good just wondering why the radio didnt change.

ok just a fyi, hboot will always scan for PC36IMG file. it will always say checking image and then it will flash no image or wrong image. it is not loading or flashing anything. so it looks like hboot is not finding the file. is the file that you downloaded zipped or does your computer unzips it? it needs to be zipped in order for hboot to see it.

no. i go into bootloader and it finds the image. then it loads it. i can tell because the load screen comes on for about 3-5 or so mins. maybe more idk. but then after its done loading the image it checks it. after it checks it its like the image never exist. like something went wrong or idk. i know its zip because from the recovery i can see the PC36IMG.zip but on my windows comp its just PC36IMG. So i understand that it just my computer hiding the .zip.
i just dont know whats wrong with the phone.

I remember having this same exact problem when trying to unroot. The PC36IMG I was trying to update to get back to stock would also load then finish then take me back to the bootloader as if nothing happened. I resolved my problem by flashing the right PC36IMG that matched my hboot.

the issue though is that his hboot is 6.17 which revolutionary changes, making it a bit harder to switch.

i ran it through a ruu that you run through a computer many times with different ruu's just maybe it was a wrong one i suppose?
i also think maybe it was cause i had it on disk drive not just charge. but idk.
