Root I need to unroot

I recently rooted my phone using the HTC eris 1 click root app from the market, and it works OK, but i would like to switch to z4, so i have to unroot this one first. I have looked over all the websites i could think of to show me how to unroot, but it is all so far over my head, i quickly got lost and confused.

i tried the PB00IMG thing, but my phone wouldn't take it. it said main version older! Update Failed and made me reboot it.

i tried getting z4 and using the unroot part of the app, and it said succefully unrooted but then my root checker said i was still rooted and i had superuser permissions besides.

I have also tried an RUU, but my computer wouldn't run it.

i just don't know what else to do. someone please post the EASIEST way for a newb to unroot.

Z4 is not a rooting method for the Eris.
Besides if your rooted what difference does it make.

The easiest way to unroot is to flash the Flashback ROM:

i agee... why on earth would you want to unroot,just so you can re-root with a different app?

im sure whatever issues youre having,we can help you figure out without having to unroot and reroot.

What is Z4?

z4root is a universal rooting app that has worked on many different android phones. alot of phones it no longer works on as software updates roll out.

i believe that it does NOT install a custom recovery,so even if it did work ont he eris,and if you were to use it,you would have to download rom manager and use clockwork(id heavily advise agains that ) or you would have to manually install Amon Ra.

the one click market app,the .apk whipped up by jcase,and the universal rooting for dummies method all leave you with a custom recovery. and if you read the dummies thread(even if you use a one click app) you are also left much better educated... and wont have to ask how to unroot so you can reroot

My son posted this earlier.. we have two eris that we rooted with the one click method. Then I got my d2g and we rooted that with z4root. We wanted to unroot both eris, especially because we wanted to make sure we could BEFORE there was ever a problem and we needed to. And I wanted to reroot with the z4root because it has such an easy way to root and unroot...

So long story short... he has spent days and MANY hours trying to unroot this thing following all the steps we have found everywhere and NOTHING worked...

UNTIL... we put z4root on it and rerooted it and then it let us unroot... so z4root unrooted it!!! Yeah, now we have a quick and painless way to root and unroot..

BUT.. in the process he lost everything.. I mean everything off his SD card. Any way to get any of that back??? He tried factory data reset...and still nothing

This started out with a "lets make sure we can unroot just in case".. and then had soooooo many crazy problems. Just by chance my d2g came right in the middle of all this and z4root was so easy that we want that on the Eris too, so we don't have to through this enormous hassle in the future.

We have read and reread and reread and reread everything on here and have tried for days before we posted this... We are new to this, but we aren't stupid We really did try everything we could and it just wasn't working. Flashback rom did not work. RUU did not work. NOTHING worked. Now it is though thanks to z4root.

z4root is not a commonly used root method for the eris,and last i knew it wouldnt work. however,if it has fufilled your needs,im glad its worked out for you.

if you had backed it up to your computer,all youd have to do is load it back on. im assuming,that you dint do that,since you are asking. unfortunately,there is no way that i know of to get back data that has been removed from your sd card.

so now that you are re-rooted by the means of your choice,what do you have for a custom recovery?
