ok guys i have a htc evo 4g stock all i have is swype i want to know how to root my phone never had a android in my life please help they told me this is the best fourm for androids thanks please respond soon

look at the stickies, you will need to know your software version, settings - about phone - software info - software number

Just really quickly, turn the phone off, then press and hold the volume down key while turning the phone back on to get to hboot. From there check your hboot version. It will be up at the top. While you *probably* have 0.97 since you have the 3.29.651.5 sw version, you might have the 2.02 hboot. I've heard of a few cases where some people got the new hboot and that sw version. If you bought the phone before November, you definitely don't need to worry about it. Just read the sticky and follow the instructions for using unrevoked if you have 0.97.

where can i get unrevoked i understand the stuff but cant find unrevoked

It's in the sticky that wrap linked to. Look in section 2, where you will find a link to the unrevoked website. From there, you want to download unrevoked3. Just pick the download for whichever OS you're using. Back in the sticky, you'll see the link to the hboot drivers you'll also need if you're using windows.

ok i pluged my phone into my laptop its windows vista and i press htc sync on my phone but it stays there searching for hardware and nothing phone tells me to go on there website but it doesnt help me at all sorry for all the questions im new to all this android stuff before i had a blackberry and iphone but i like the android system better so i switched

You're trying to do something with HTC sync? You're supposed to uninstall HTC sync. I'm confused as to what step you're on and what you're trying to do. And no, there is no way to do it only on the phone. You need a computer.

ok im at the begining i havent done anything yet ok i connect my phone to pc and what do i do after that

Step 1) Follow the instructions in the sticky.

Sorry, but we can't sit here giving you step by step instructions for something that's already well documented. We'd all be more than happy to help you out if you run into problems, but not if you aren't going to read the instructions.
