I believe Facepalm works fine up to a certain hboot version. Then you can do Moonshine after that. I don't remember the specific hboot versions off the top of my head though.

You can also use rumrunner and firewater. Lots of s off options for one s

Since you have some experience with ubuntu now,and are running a rom with an insecure kernel,I'd try running rumrunner while booted into ububtu.
