Root I regret getting this phone.

Anyone else? The phone lags a lot, even when using a task manager to close programs (not in the backgroumg - manually doing it). Everytime something reada from or writea to the internal SD card, the phone stalls. The GPS doesnt work at all, amd last time I tried to use it, it locked my phone up.

Screen is nice, but it's definitely not worth the issues this phone has. Am I the only one who feels like we got sold phones in the post-alpha, pre-beta phase of testing? Two Vibrants here, so it's not a problem with my phone - both nehave identically. This phone just sucks at the momemt. Its bad quality is just inexcusable givem what they charge for these things.

Don't even like iOS devices, but may have to take these back and go back to AT&T, cause at least the iPhones work as advertised.

Thought? Hopefully someyhing more than "mine works" necause the ones that "work" ar hacked devices or idiots getting the placebo effect after doing fix_01 from some obscure webpage. I dont buy devices to go through that shit.

Should have pit SAmoled on the Evo or something that "works" and gets updates in reasonable speeds.
 
You can root the phone and install the lagfix. If you're still not satisfy with its performance, return it. Don't be stuck with TWO phones you're not happy with.

Well, "Mine Works" :p (yes that was a joke). Not a joke that it doesn't work, but a joke to saying "something more than mine works". Since day 1, I have had no problems with my phone. No lag issue, battery problems, no gps problems (although I use CoPilot, not the base Google Maps, Nav gps pre-installed). I have rooted my phone and installed the lagfix (although I didn't have any lag problems to begin with, just wanted to test it out of curiosity), but then I uninstalled the lagfix because I really didn't see a point in it other than reducing the size of my free app space due to being repartitioned, and getting a higher quadrant benchmark score (whooptie doo). And I consider myself pretty hard on my phone. Hard meaning I use a lot of apps (tweetdeck, foursquare, fb, texting throughout the day, use of the phone, use Dolphin browser regularly, etc...), bluetooth is always on, gps and wireless is always on.

Honestly, if you're having problems with your phone(s), do a little research, go visit XDA, possibly do a factory reset, root your phone and remove unwanted apps that could be making your phone laggy and slow (Amazon MP3, Telenav, etc..)

Go into recovery and wipe everything and then reinstall everything back. Worked perfectly for me :)
 
I have never had an issue with my phone save trying to use GPS only on it. I don't think I am an idiot because I have rooted my phone to remove some apps that I didn't want. I had no lag at all but I did run the lag fix to see what if anything it would do. If you really have that many problems with the phone then take them back. I am interested to see if the Froyo update this month hepls solve some of these issues for others though.
 
First of all DO NOT USE A TASK KILLER!!! Seriously get educated on why task killers are bad and you'll see why the phone is lagging. But yes I'd say do a factory restore, and try out the one click root and lag fix. But as a consumer, do not use the forums to complain about a product, use your wallet. Go back and return it. But if you chose to stick with the phone, which I hope you do, I think this is a great product, then there is plenty of information here to help you out.
 
Like yatimameiji said, do not use Task Killers. They actually do more harm than good. If you don't want slacker and Amazon Kindle running in the background then root your phone and delete the bloatware.

I didn't like this phone either at first, then I rooted and everything changed. If you really care about your phone no matter what kind it is, you will root. It opens up an entire new world of functionality on these devices. Try rooting, overclocking, removing bloatware and installing a custom rom if you'd like. I did the first 3 while staying on the stock rom and the phone flies.

Also, as of now, this is the BEST phone to play games on. I couldn't imagine playing Angry Birds on a smaller screen with LCD technology, it would look like crap!
 
I to have had no problems with my vibrant, I cant put it down and I havent even rooted it. Yours must be a factory defect or u just have to much crap(apps,files,etc.) On it. I would exchange, then see what happens.
 
Hi, new to these forums, but not new to phones. I am your typical phone junkie.

I've had the Vibrant since day 1. I had the original G1 (version 1.0 of Android).

In my opinion, if the OP isn't familiar with Android phones, they will be sorely disappointed if they are used to the iPhone's "smooth" OS. It's true. No matter how we spin in, Android still has a little ways to go.

That being said, the Samsung Vibrant (in it's stock Tmobile forum) appears very laggy. Takes forever to boot up (with that dumb ass media scanning). Things will be fixed soon. It's just whether the OP wants to stick it out until the real 2.2 update comes out. I know an official minor tweak to the current 2.1 ROM is coming out soon from Tmobile/Samsung (the ROM's already been leaked). But most people prefer an official update as opposed to hacking their own phones to get it to work perfectly.
 
I'm on my third phone. I agree with the OP about feeling some kind of way about paying for this phone and having to deal with all of the lag and spontaneous pants shitting my vibrants have been doing. I don't run a task killer and my first two phones were essentially unuseable; The last one was so bad that I had to switch back on my 2 year old Bold just to be able make and receive calls. This third one that I received Friday seems to be less FUBAR'd than the last two pieces of garbage, but GPS still isn't functional, and while T-mo apparently has no problem sending me a replacement phone every other week they damn sure won't give me my money back so the whole "take it back" thing as become rather damn tired.

While I think its cool that folks are doing the DIY root thing to get these phones to function half way decently, for me that feels like buying a brand new car, but the sales man tells me "Just don't turn on the radio while you're driving, or the car will shut off. No, I don't know when we'll be able to fix it, and no you can't get a refund." Or worse, buy a brand new car, but you'll have to swap the motor, because this one won't run. Really? What kind of BS is that?

I initially purchased this phone because of the features that were indicated by the manufacturer, in stock form. I didn't purchase this phone to not be able to use key features that were selling points for the phone in the first place. And I should be able to do warranty voiding upgrades because I want to, not because I have to. Buy a shovel that breaks the the first time you use it. Pissed, and feeling ripped off? You bet. Buy an expensive phone that arrives essentially broken. Pissed, and feeling ripped off? You damn right I do.

I just paid this phone off this weekend, because I didn't want anything holding me back if I have to head over to att. Like I said, this one has only puked once in two days, so I'll wait and see when these "updates" show up. But next time I'm in the market for a "smart" phone, I'm gonna walk right past any android phone, and either give my $500 to a homeless drunk, or just buy an iphone. Gauging how my wife's iphone seems to function everyday all day flawless, I'll at least have an item that works as advertised. As for the drunk, at least I won't be surprised when he shows up a week later, drunk, lagging, and prone to spontaneous pants shitting, as advertised. I'm glad there are folks out there who are having no issues with their vibrants.

But as for me, I regret buying this phone.

But just because Samsung and TMobile screwed the pooch on this one, don't take it out on Android. There is a lot that is good and exciting coming down the pipe, just go HTC next time.
 
Yea...I do not really understand this.

I've had 19 cellulars (4 android phones (2x G1, MT3GS, Vibrant)) and the Vibrant is by FAR the most streamlined, customizable phone ever (I collect and use phones like a heroin addict). Out of the box it was great, rooted it is PRISTINE. I don't know why yours seems to be so bad you need to return it more than once--probability says at least one phone you received was in perfect operating condition. ???

This is my first smartphone and I love it so far. Hopefully, I don't adopt your habits on collecting these phones though. ;)
