Root I rooted my phone...

Now what?

Samsung Fascinate. Give me your best advice/ideas for a newly rooted phone. I'm running GO Launcher EX with a Windows 7 setup (hand done).

Thanks, and fire away!

I would basically like to customize the lock screen, notification bar and the look of the dock. I'm happy with my icon set and home screen.

So I downloaded what I thought was Clockwork but was in fact an update. I cannot find the original clockwork tar anywhere! I've done all the different options (i.e. one package, changing debugging on the phone etc) but it continually gives me "Check image files!!" error.

I've searched the net and I can't find the right Clockwork tar!

Thanks

Follow the instructions here: [HOW-TO] New Clockwork Manager - xda-developers
The necessary files are there.

I rooted my phone today out of frustration with stupid Bing and I figure if I buy a phone I should be able to have what I want on it. Anyway, my question is now that's it rooted, aside from ROMs/wireless tethering, what else can be done with a rooted phone (which now uses Google!) that couldn't be done before?

I thought about getting Odin ([HOW-TO] New Clockwork Manager - xda-developers got scared at...

5. Boot into recovery (cwm)

What's cwm stand for?

Thanks for the help!

PS: I rooted using How to Root - Android Forums and it worked like a CHARM. NO trouble at all.

You still need to flash certain things through Odin, but clockwork can make a backup of your current setup, aka a nandroid backup. It just does what we call flashing them to the phone, you need to put the actual zip files on the sd card.

Ok, I've been looking at ROMs threads all day and I am now frightened. I was looking at [ROM][12.21.12][SC 2.8 End of the World Edition]2.6.32 Voodoo and Nonvoodoo - xda-developers for too long and mentions of radios and modems made me feel like I'm in the 1980s again, not to mention kernels which seemingly have no relation to actual popcorn at all.

In the end my question is, is all this worth it? I want my phone to a) be stable b) have as long a battery life as possible c) look cool. However threads with 243 pages to install something freak me out.

Thanks for your opinions!

a. Depends on which rom you use.

I always read what people who flash the rom first say before I do anything. 2.8's good to go and has been since 2.1. It's stable.

b. Battery life varies from phone to phone depending on how much you use it. Coming from an unrooted 2.1 Fascinate you'll see more battery if you use your phone like you did before.

c. Since you're rooted you can add themes...pretty much change the whole look beyond a different launcher.

And the 243 page thing are mainly people reviewing the newest version :P To install it just read the first post usually.
