I screwed up my root.

Hello everyone.

I followed the rooting guide for I9100 and it's left me with supersu and CWM but no working root. On top of that, it broke my wifi.

My details are as follows:

Baseband version: I9100NELP4
Kernel Version: 3.0.15-I9100XWLPI-CL686447
Build number: IML74k.XWLPI
CSC: I9100H3GLP4

I flashed CF-Root-SGS2_XW_DBT_LPI-v5.5-CWM5.zip which is the closest match for my kernel.

Where did I go wrong? What should my next steps be?

Thank you!

Hello and welcome to Android Forums Threedawg! :)

Lets see if we can sort you out.

I'm assuming that you used the, "Rooting Galaxy S2 - A Dummies Guide" and you are on the Three network.

Lokking at your original, stock, kernel version, 3.0.15-I9100XWLPI-CL686447, then the root kernel you have used is my first choice.

It sometimes happens that you may need to re-flash, carefully following the Dummies Guide, the root kernel again. To eliminate the possibility that your original CF-Root kernel download was corrupted, I would re-download it.

You can then download Root Checker, free from the Play Store, to check your root status.

I very much appreciate your response.

I tried to do it again and I got the same issue. I can immediately tell that's it failed when I turn my phone on and it goes immediately to H+ instead of wifi as it did before flashing the CF root kernel.

I redownloaded the corresponding kernel again just to make sure the problem isn't corruption.

I'm at a wall now with where to go :/

A few questions...

1. What does Root Checker show?

2. Is your Wi-Fi turned on and can it connect to your router. This may mean deleting your connection and re-defining it.

The wifi was trying to connect to the router and would get stuck at authenticating. It wasn't a router problem as I reset many times and I also tried clearing the entry.

I used an insecure kernel + superoneclick to root it in the end.

Before doing that, I fixed my wifi issue by simply flashing a secure, original kernel - the same one that I had at stock.

Then I flashed the insecure kernel, ran superoneclick and I was finished! Root successfull.

I backed up the EFS folder and then flashed CM10 and I'm now very much enjoying my phone!

Just a little side note, if anyone is curious as to how good CM10 is with regards to speed, it's phenomenal.

My cm10 s2 outperforms my fathers and my sisters stock s3 in speed. Browsing, ui, loading, every real world speed test is won by the s2 on CM10.
