Root I think I bought a rooted Fascinate?

Giant96

Newbie
So I purchased a Fascinate off Craigslist today in very nice condition..but I think its rooted..I have no idea about rooting,,I did factory reset..see a "Superuser" App and here is my build info:

Firmware 2.2.1
Baseband : Si500.04 V.EA28
Kernel : 2.6.32.9
Build #: SCH-I500.DL30

Any info on what I can do with this? Is this stable? I see rigt now my battery shows 42% but the battery indicator looks to be 3/4 full. Not sure where to go from here?

Giant96,

I've moved your thread to the all-things-root sub-forum...you should get some good responses from the good folks in there.

Cheers and congrats on your recent purchase :).

By the way, having the Superuser app installed might not necessarily mean that you really are rooted--you need the su program installed for that. You can check to see if you are rooted by downloading the free Android Terminal Emulator app and typing "su" (without the quotes, of course) and pressing the return key.

If you see a "#" prompt, you are indeed rooted, if you still see a "$" prompt, then you are not really rooted. There's a couple of other ways to check this, but this method is pretty easy and fool-proof.

Note that just having root won't hurt your phone or cause any extra resources to be used. I would encourage you to read up on general root topics (and stickies) found in just about every forum's all-things-root areas (there are some really good ones out there.

Hopefully, some kind soul here in the Fascinate forums will chime-in with some additional advice for you.

Cheers!

Thank you.. Yes I have the # sign so looks like im rooted.

That's pretty sweet! :)

Use your new root powers for good, not evil, eh? ;) :)

Just do your research and make sure you have a fallback / backout / recovery plan before you alter anything on your system with your root capabilities. An ouce of prevention, etc...

Cheers!

That's an early ROM (EA28). If you ever find the courage, get a later one flashed. Likely it won't autoupdate due to mods after root.

You could use the steps found in this post to go to the latest stock software. Links to three different versions of software are listed. You'll want the first one linked that is labeled "NEW ED05 FROYO OFFICIAL FULL ODIN TAR!!!!" It's quite simple and it's worked for me time after time.
