Root I think I bricked my HTC Hero

Firstly, I do have the GSM HTC Hero

Today I followed the sticky to flash my hero. Managed to get into the Amon Ra menu then realised that I didn't do an APP backup so all I did was the nand backup then I rebooted the phone to do the TI backup.

Now I restarted the phone with the home button and a picture of a mobile with a red exclamation mark in the corner appeared. So I rebooted the phone again normally without pressing any other button apart from the end call (power) button. The same picture of the phone with exclamation mark appeared. So basically I am stuck right from the start.

I have been rooted for a while.
Amon Ra was only installed today though and I do have a nand backup.

What do I do now, I want to install a new custom ROM ideally?

OK no worries actually. I mashed all the buttons in frustration and some menu appeared over the phone with ! image. I think it was Amon Ra. Anyway I chose to reboot my phone and now I am using the phone normally. I am going to try and flash custom rom again.

OK I have installed elelinux 2.2 special edition. Are there any other better roms out there?

I think, if you're after a non-Sense gingerbread ROM them elelinux or Cronos are your best bets.

Is this the latest ROM?
I want one that works perfectly in all cases just like the 2.1 official ROM if possible

HTC Hero Cronos Ginger X 2.3.1 (Android 2.3.4)

I think this is my fave.

Reasonably smooth scrolling.

Camera and GPS both work well.

Not had a crash yet.

Battery seems to last a day or two.
