Root I think I somehow lost root?!?!

I tried a bunch of apps that require root. None of them could gain root access. I opened SuperSU and it said I need to updated my su binaries. When I hit Continue to do so it fails. I think I've lost root somehow. I'm very sad right now! Please, for the love of God, somebody help me. I need to be rooted.

If you have Superuser or SuperSU in your app drawer, you're still rooted.

If you're running SuperSU, reattempt the update, mine went through OK, sometimes that just fails due to Market traffic.

Next, go to your Settings in SuperSU and make sure that your Enable Superuser is still checked.

If you have to, you can Forget each listed app by clicking on it and choosing that and then rebuilding your table.

And finally - you have full root, with nandroids? So long as you have that with current nandroid backups, nothing can get to you.

I tried each of the solutions you mentioned with no success. So I restored a nandroid (can't believe I didn't think of it sooner) and great success! I'm sad that I've lost some stuff, but it's not so bad considering the alternate. Thanks so much!

Remember - keep a copy of your nandroid backups on your PC and also, just because, go ahead and do a restore of an old backup after a new one - then restore the new one.

A corrupted nandroid is rare, but per Murphy's Law, they'll get you if you're not prepared.

You know - the forum needs a Nandroid Strategy Guide - it really does. This stuff we take for granted - it's huge.

And why nandroid before even the simplest flash? If the package was corrupted on download, you'll be borked - this has personally happened to me.

Yeah - stuff like that - so, maybe not a Nandroid Strategy Guide - maybe a Nandroid Survival Guide! ;)

Oh yeah, Murphy likes to kick me when I'm down. I go above and beyond with my nandroids. I have them on my phone, internal and external storage, my laptop, and in my dropbox. It seems a bit excessive, but better safe than sorry.
