Root I think I'm finally going to take the plunge.

OK, so my Wife will be out on a Hen Night tomorrow, there's naff-all on telly atm and I'm seriously starting to run out of room.

So, after reading SUroot's Urevoke guide and Rooting FAQ, I think I'm prepared to root and indulge in a little Gingervillain and custom partition action.

But I want to check I'm coming from the right direction before I start.

I have a TMO branded Desire on 2.2. To ensure I can return to stock for warranty purposes, I'll get an RUU. I can only find 2.1 for TM:

RUU_Bravo_TMO_UK_1.21.110.4_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_127570_signed.exe

This should be good enough for a RTB repair?

I can't find a TMO PB99IMG, so if I had usb problems (USB Brick?) I assume I'd need:
PB99IMG_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.2_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151
783_signed.zip?
To get me to a stock WWE image, and then I could run the above RUU.
I understand that I should have a goldcard, and I'd definitely need one for the unbranded image.

Am I on the right track?

Another question, that crops up re-reading the above. They have different Radio's. Does the RUU reflash the radio as well?

TIA folksies.

Simon

Hi Simon, Dan here...

Well ok, to repair a software issue, using a branded RUU will be enough and you can use that PB99IMG.zip (must be named "PB99IMG.zip" and is case sensitive) with a goldcard, as you already know.

For a warranty return, you would need the TMO software on there BUT there is an issue. RUU's cannot take android backwards in versions (Or Hboot). You can only go to a release of the same version or newer.

There is a downgrade tool created by Teppic74 which will allow you to downgrade to an older version (such as TMO 2.1 roms). See here: [HOWTO] Downgrade Froyo (2.2) to Stock 2.1 (ANY HBOOT | WIN/LINUX/MAC | ROOT) - xda-developers

RUU's flash the rom, bootloader (hboot), recovery, Radio. everything. You could theoretically take a desire that had been completely wiped blank (not really possible for us to do as users) and make it ready for sale with an RUU

Hi Dan,

Useful info about the case-sensitiveness if the PB99IMG.zip, thanks. Been in Windows-world for a while now, so that would have been easy to miss.

Ah. thanks, I had read that many moons ago but had forgotten. So I'd downgrade with Teppic74's tool, then flash the RUU, yes?

Cheers, see you on the other side.

You can also extract the PB99IMG.zip from the TMO RUU and flash from fastboot.

Not on a GSM desire. You can't flash anything that isn't .img AND you would need to be S-off to fastboot flash, using the fastboot commands.

Unless you meant Hboot? You put PB99IMG.zip on root fo SD and Hboot will pick it up. But it is still subject to downgrading rules.

@ Simon,

You can use the downgrade tool with the TMO ruu (I think it extracts the PB99IMG.zip from the RUU) so you wouldnt need to dowgrade then flash.

However, depending what rom you go for, you may have to flash an RUU before downgrading.

Really? Did not know that Dan :)

wait!!! didnt hadron or eddy have a leaked tmobile RUU that is from 2.2 that wasnt on shipped-roms?
or was it a different carrier

Wasn't it Voda? ...and Usta?

I dont know babe, I was totally drunk and can't remember much of it.

It wasn't eddy cause he replied saying something like "now we just need an orange one" so I think it was usta. And I'm sure it was Voda.

Unless you said the above Hadron?

I managed to get to the page with the download link, and it said there had been one, that's one, download!
Needed to register so put it off until tomorrow. Don't think the site is down, just very slow.

im going to upload it to my webhost. if someone can then get them to shipped roms or stick it on multiupload that would be great

Not sure how to (I'm new to all this), but will give it a go later when I'm home. Thanks for downloading, Rasta.
