That's basically what it's for. It's meant to refresh all internal partitions with the defaults. If anything (from the system itself to recovery) is broken, this fixes it. It obviously doesn't include a rooted ROM, though. That being said, you said at the start that you have S-OFF, correct? That is done through unrevoked these days, and cannot be undone through flashing an RUU.

I tried to disable the USB Fastboot permissions block in HBoot 2.10.0001 by editing it with a hex editor and installing it on one of my dev phones. It rebooted and started to update hboot and then crapped out and went completely dark. It literally does NOTHING anymore, no led when plugged in, no backlight etc... All of which makes perfect sense as HBoot is essentially the software that sits there and waits for you to press power when the phone is off so it can start up the device. Unfortunately I didn't think it through very carefully before tinkering, so short of taking the thing apart and breaking out the old eeprom writer I think I'm pretty well bricked.
 
Well, technically, no software is sitting there waiting for you to press the power button, as the phone is, well, off. But yeah, messing around with hboot and radio firmware (but mostly hboot) is what will get you into trouble. If you can get to hboot, you're (generally) not bricked (with a few exceptions). It sounds like you at least knew the risks, and used a phone you didn't care about too much.
 
Ok so first off i want to say sorry if im stealing your thread but it looked like you were done so i was wandering if anyone could help me please? I was in the middle of rooting my phone and the USB accidentally came uhooked.. When the phone is plugged in though it shows a black screen with HTC and four triangles one in each corner. When the phone is unplugged it shows a white screen with

Welcome to the forums!!

It seems like you just wiped the phone Rom and it won't boot up. No worries we'll get you fixed up. :)

I see you have s-on, so the root didn't take which shouldn't be a problem. You said that RUU was highlighted in orange, try to press the power button when RUU is highlighted. See if that will work.

Also what phone do you have?
The inspire or the desire hd?

We have 2 different forums dedicated to each phone, and I want to be sure we get the correct info for your phone. I've got an OG EVO 4G, so I'm not 100% knowledgeable of your phone.

Once we know exactly which one you have we'll get your posts moved to that forum so you'll get the folks dedicated to that phone on the hook. :)

I truly don't think you've got a brick on your hands, breath deep. We'll find a bootloader RUU then run it from hboot.

Post back what phone you have then we'll go from there. :)
 
First off thanks for welcoming me to the forums. Okay i have the HTC Inspire. Also when i look at the screen i try to click on RUU with the power button but it wont work. (Also i have downloaded HTC Syncv.3.0 and RUU_Ace_Gingerbread)
