Root I Took The Plunge...

I Rooted.

I am currently using Syndicate ROM Frozen 1.2 with Genocide Kernal 1.1. So far the speeds are amazing, wifi tether is nice, and the overall look is beautiful.

I followed qbking77's guide and finished without a problem, except for some driver issues which I resolved after only a few minutes. So a big thanks to him.

Anything else I should know now that I joined the cool kids and rooted my phone? I need to look into Titanium Back-up, but besides that any other suggestions?

You can look at MyBackup Root (or Pro) with or instead of Ti Backup.

You can play around with Voltage Control, but make sure journaling is on before you start setting the minimum down too low.

ShootMe - take pics of the screen on your phone.

Terminal Emulator - needed for some of the installs, mod's, etc...

You can also look at themes for the ROM...

If you really want to be bold, download one of the 2.3 ROMs so you use the Netflix app.

EDIT: Root Explorer or similar - let's you modify settings, change boot animations, etc or anything else that is on the phone itself.

I just used ShootMe, that's a useful app. What is journaling? a log?

Thanks, I'll try some of those out.

I just tried this app out called Kies air that came with my rom. It is so amazing! I can access my phone from a browser! I don't have to email myself contact or pictures anymore! I can just log in and download them! I should have rooted earlier.

I have yet to upgrade to the 1.2 version of SRF. I saw that Kies Air was including, but I didn't really know what it was. How is the interface?

Also, journaling is a safe guard against data corruptions, which in turn leads to force closing of apps, launchers, etc... With journaling enabled, all data is written to the phone twice. There is a possibility for a slight performance degradation, but everything I have read would suggest it is minimal or not noticeable.

Thanks for the info.

I think you can.

So now I came across my first problem. I started up wifi tether and walked away, when I came back I saw the Acs loading screen. When it finished loading it returned me back to the wifi tether page. I clicked the start wifi button and my phone crashed. Once it restarted, every app force closed and the phone was unuseable. Long story short I reflashed the rom and kernal and used titanium back up to resore my apps. Why did this happen?

On a side note, is there anyway to back up my app data so I dont need to relog into everything and the location of the apps on my homescreen?

Usually, it is caused by data corruption of some sort. You can help avoid this in the future by increasing your minimum processor speed, or else enabling journaling. I would recommend the journaling... Here is the link to the zip you'll need to flash in CWM.

[CWM][EXT4]ReEnable/Disable Journaling Instantly

The only people that should be running with journaling off are flashaholics that like to benchmark a lot. I guarantee you won't notice a difference with it on. The phone is plenty fast to handle it.
