Help I want to buy Triumph but need at least 2.3

I want to upgrade from my optimusV

I really want the Triumph with its HD camera, front face camera, large screen, and HD outputs, but....

Is there any way Virgin will update to 2.3? From what I have read the answer is no. Is there any way around that such as rooting? The reason I want 2.3 is because of a few apps. I wont buy it if I can only run 2.2

My other option is to wait for the HTC One-V, but smaller screen and no front facing camera...ugh

Cant virgin take the best features from each phone and combine it into one model...cmon

There will be no update for the triumph more than likely from what i heard motorola is not on the sane page as google with the updates so thats why alot of motorola phone are not being updated at this time triumph included. But you can flash whyzor's cm7 reloaded newest and final build which will put you on 2.3.7. i believe this build is really stable and runs great. just when you flash cm7 reloaded and gapps you flash cm7 thunder prop. which opens the door to run more app. cm9 (4.0) is in a alpha stage which is but it really needs a lot of work. If this is your first time flashing just follow instruction carefully.

Make a small note that currently if you're going to use anything other than a Froyo rom you won't get HDMI at the very least. That's with Whyzor's CM7 Reloaded. Other roms are even less reliable but are in the works such as a stock 2.3.4 and 4.0 which are both in alpha phase of development.

Well you can't have your cake and eat it too....

But, if you like pie. Then you can buy the triumph, activate it, then put cm7 or miui on it. (Since they are gingerbread) :p

Like EHokie said, you can flash CM7 (which is very easy to do) and get Android 2.3 on your Triumph. However, you do lose HDMI capabilities (which I never used, but you mentioned as one of the features you were looking for). CM7 runs great for me, much more smoothly than the stock ROM.

However, if I were you, I would consider waiting until the HTC One V comes out, which should be pretty soon. I know the screen is slightly smaller and it lacks a front-facing camera, but most people seem to be expecting it to be a great phone. Also, it will be released with Android 4.0, meaning you get the latest features and since this is a newer phone, it is more likely to get continued support from VM and HTC (while support for the Triumph might die out).

A lot of people bash the Triumph for being a terrible phone. It does have its problems, but it really is pretty good. That said, if I were buying a new phone right now, I would be more likely to go with the HTC One V.

Yeah the only way to get 2.3 on the Triumph is to talk to the leaders of VM and Moto directly and tell them you demand an update, or loose HDMI support with CM7 or MIUI.

That being said, I don't see why everyone acts like they have to have Gingerbread or ICS. From what I ran, I hated ICS, and Gingerbread(Stock Gingerbread, not CM7) is not that cool either. Now CM9 and CM7 add alot of features that I think are really cool. But I prefer to run my custom ROMs that are 2.2 based. FroYo gets bashed daily and its because everyone has to have the latest and greatest or they get all pissed off and freaked out because someone has something better. My themed bROM(v1.1 not v1.0 that is released and garbage) is better looking to me than any ROM I have seen. I guess its because I made it what I wanted it to look like.

But as far as apps go, which ones can't you get on 2.2 that you can on 2.3? I'm not aware of many. Plus with the Thunderbolt build.prop mod, you can make the market think your phone is running 2.3.4. But please everyone quit hating on FroYo!!! :)

b_randon14 - good comments w.r.t. Froyo. With ADW Laucher EX, I'm pretty happy with the U.I. experience, just not the buggy behaviors of the device. I've used GB before on another platform, and tend to agree, not a lot different. ICS does appear to have some slick UI concepts / gestures, but - why bother if the device is not reliable?

so with your Froyo rom:
Do you have HDMI out?
How's the GPS and BT?
Is there control over the amassing log files?

many thanks.

I read about most of you "rooting" your phones...I feel like my stock Triumph is crap 'cuz I just leave it the way it is. I get good reception in 3G have never had a problem with it..knocking on wood) wifi connects quickly.. I think it' s a good phone..I use it for web browsing, texting (though not while driving) playing games, etc. Is thee a need to "root the phone?

Yeah I have the alog files under control lol! I even added a script that can be called from a root terminal to delete all log files lol!

And HDMI should work. Never tried it as I don't have the cable but I haven't done nothing that should have messed with it.

On my phone, the GPS and BT works just as it does on the stock ROM. Its kind of a subjective thing you know. Some peoples devices lock on quickly, some don't. Its just the way it is.

But yeah it's like an amped up stock experience with a pretty cool theme I think! It should be released in the next few days! :)

whats wrong McFly? chicken about moving to the Triumph?

sorry i had to.

its a great phone if your willing to install CM7.

seeing as the optimus V only has 2.2 and you love 2.3, i will assume you rooted and installed cm7 on that one too? if so, youll be happy to know the triumph SO MUCH easier to install cm7 to than the OV was/is

there is really no conformation that the htc is coming to v/m

Which apps, McFly? Perhaps they're already running on custom 2.2 ROMs.

The camera is not that great.. the front one is worse. Won't get any better with 2.3, besides those problems and the low audio output glitch.... it's a good phone

more questions....

Ok so I was a tad wrong in my original post here. Its not that I need android 2.3, It's that I need Flash. So it looks like the Triumph has all the specs Im looking for in a phone (Flash, front facing camera, Large touch screen) but after reading reviews of the phone, Im not sure I like the overall performance of the triumph but I will probably get it if I cant find something else. Also note I am really NOT interested in installing Roms on any device (...yet).

So with that said, and getting slightly off topic, can anyone recommend a Prepaid phone that has a front facing camera and a large screen??? Can I buy an unlocked phone and activate it to T-Mobile prepaid? I like the looks of the T-mobile prepaid plan, but I dont think any of their prepaid phones interest me.

Overall im looking for Pre-paid, Flash, Large screen, front facing camera...any ideas besides the triumph???

If I could hook up an HTC-Amaze to T-Mobile prepaid...that would be GOLDEN. Is it possible?

Thanks for all the previous input...i really appreciate it

If you can hold on a little longer, it's strongly rumored (although not officially confirmed yet) that Virgin Mobile will be getting the HTC Evo 3D in the next few months. It out-specs the Triumph in every way- larger screen (QHD 4.3" ), Gingerbread stock with Sense (with an active dev community already), dual core 1.2GHz processor, dual band cellular radio (vs. Triumph's single band) and WiMax 4G.

Still not official, but it seems to keep popping up on different sites, and Dan Hesse (Sprint CEO) has all but confirmed that VM will be getting WiMax.

EDIT: Yes, it will support Flash, and does have a front facing camera (as long as the hardware is not changed.)

ohhh i had no idea the HTC evo had a front facing camera. Thanks!

Any other currently available phones would also be helpful.

HDMI works on your ROM, just used it the other night.
