Root I want to give an AOSP a try

I've been rooted for about a year now and have been running only sense roms. Currently I'm running Mikg 3.11 with underworld. Lately the rom has been acting up and I'm thinking it might be time to reflash it. If I'm going to be doing that I want to try out something different. Also using Amon Ra for my recovery, is that ok with a AOSP rom?

I was thinking of trying CM7 unless you can suggest similar / better? Other than flashing GAPPS with it, what else should I know? Does everything work like GPS, bluetooth, WiFi, HDMI and all that good stuff? I hear the mason kerneI is the one to use as well, is that true? I dont have 4G in my area so I'm not worried about that.

How do I keep Sprint visual voicemail? I love that thing and would prefer to keep it.
Is there anything I should know before doing it like bugs or quirks? Just so I have have a heads up on what to expect with whatever AOSP rom I try out. I'm looking to get better battery and a smooth working phone.

I have ran mostly mik stuff along with Tommy Tomateo (which was nice and light wieght), but now it's time to try out something new.
Thanks for the info

I am in the same boat as "sanity29" and thought by adding to his thread the experts could kill two birds with one stone. I am also running MikG3.11 and for all practical purposes quite happy with it, but I have the change bug to. Been looking at Decks Reloaded and seems like it has gotten the thumbs up around here.

My question involves the download for this rom, when I go to this page
"http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1661605" and click the bold red SMELKUSMOD link it takes me to a download page with (8) choices for an aokp-theme, (8) for ics-theme, and (8) for mason-theme, plus (3) for an se-theme. I would assume I want to download the most current version to be up to date, just not sure what se-theme and aokp theme signify.

Next question involves DTA2SD. Question #1, how do yu verify md5?

Will DTA2SD install automatically with this rom?(is it baked in?)

Do I need to have an EXT4 on my sd card to run this rom? (I have EXT3 currently)

Thanks in advance for your help.

1. you can use a program:[ROM] Deck's ReLoaded Ver. 44 Mag RLS - xda-developers

2. you will need to follow the op. it has instructions on how to flash with dt

3. there is nothing in the op about ext 4 so i would stick with ext 3 as your partition.

Cool. Currently using among ra 3.something, i forget but its been working great for many months now. That is what i will stick with as im happy with that recovery.
Sound like i just need to download and flash. From what i read on the link, the download had gapps and the current mason kernel built in?
After flashing and setting up, can i restore my apps (user not system) and their date with titanium or will the backup apps not be compatible with the aosp rom coming from a sense rom?

Any other setup or launcher suggestions before I do this?

you are correct on gapps and kernel.

you should be fine with tb. your apps does not discriminate between aosp and sense so your fine.

i really like go launcher as my launcher of choice.

and yes the mason kernel comes with the rom.

I chose Go Launcher in the whole process. It gives you that choice. Really works well w/Deck's Reloaded.

I have three more questions:
1) what's a good dialer to use? The big thing i like about sense is the fact I can just type a name in the dialer to find who I'm calling without opening the contacts app.

2) do I need a launcher or is there not one built into decks? How is the built in one if there is one?

3) sprint visual voicemail, is it there or do I need to install it? If i need it, where do i find the apk for it?

The one thing about Decks is the dialer...when you start dialing, it does not pull up matching contacts but that is a minor thing for me. As far as a dialer, I dont know cuz I didn't look into that.

The stock launcher in Decks is nice...I started out with that, then went to GoLauncherPro (included with Decks) and liked that much more (lot more customization)...the I went with TSF Shell launcher just yesterday and am playing with that.

Sprint voicemail was included with Decks...
If/when you decide to go with decks, the Aroma installer allows you to choose which apps the rom will install.

Dialer ex is a good replacement

CoContacts EX has GoDialer included. When I use it, I switch over to the dark theme. Works just like the Sense dialer. And you can swipe from side to side to bring up different menus. It's great.

Switch over to aosp bro. Way better than sense IMHO, way more tweaks, less bloat and the interfaces are sick as hell. Just because of aosp gb and ics roms I will be holding onto my evo for a while. That and a lack of funds lol.

Does the version of the mason kernel that comes with the ROM include SBC? Also can i run setcpu or no frills cpu with this rom or does it have somerhing similar baked in?

The default kernel has sbc, yes, and you can either use system tuner (included) or use setcpu.
You can also change kernels later if you desire.:)

Edit: I assumed you meant the Decks Reloaded rom, and sorry if you didnt...I was just reading about decks earlier and my mind is on Decks. :)

Thanks, i did mean decks. Never used system tuners, I'll try that first. I'm going with the mason kernel as I hear its the one to use.
