First off let me say greetings from the Eris threads!

Anyways, My brother is sick of his BB storm and is due for his upgrade at the end of the month and he's considering a Fascinate. Me on the other hand, I'm waiting until the HTC incredible HD(or Mecha) comes out. Now obviously this will be biased.. but I want to know what you everyday users think of your phones.

For example, how's your battery life? speed: would you call it laggy or snappy? I you satisfied with the overall performance? Now, I hear you don't have froyo yet, is that something to be expecting in the near future? How do you like Galaxy S, or do you use a different launcher? Rooted/better?
And last but not least, given the opportunity would you buy one again or go with something else like the incredible or X?

Sorry but I just want to make sure he'll be making the right choice instead of waiting like I am.

Much thanks!!

I love my Fascinate...it has better call quality and reception than the Eris ( I had one), it is very snappy, I do run Zeam and I like it but Touchwiz isn't bad either. My battery easily lasts for over 12 hours with moderate use ( 12 hours 53 minutes and around 3/4 left 1/4 down). Given the same circumstances I would again make the same choice for the Fascinate.
My GPS takes about 1 minute to lock but after that it is very accurate.

This said....I'm sure the phones that come out in early 2011 will be better and faster the the Fascinate....so waiting has it's merits. ( I have an upgrade to use around february)

up to 3 days if i only talk & txt. 1 full day with gaming, internet, downloading apps, using the camera, etc.

overall performance is good. no hard power cycles (pulling battery) needed in the 2 months i've owned it. occassionally it'll lag but coming from my omnia, it's a non-issue.

i'd like to see froyo. or gingerbread. or just the dj05 update. i still use TouchWiz and haven't rooted. but i'm still satisfied with the performance of the GPS... again, it's still better than my omnia was. i've thought about Launcher Pro or ADW and look around the forum - the non-stock launchers are loved. those who've rooted and debloated and flashed custom roms seem to be content too.

i wouldn't swap for an Incredible, but i wouldn't mind trying an X. but i'm good w/ the fascinate. it's a huge upgrade from where i was and it does what i need. it's even good as an actual phone, haha

Personally, there is no current phone/service provider combo that I would swap the Verizon Fascinate for.

That said, while the Fascinate is full of potential it does require a little work/hacking IMO. If your bro isn't tech-savvy (or doesn't feel like dedicating any of his time to a phone) and wants an out-of-the-box package I think the Incredible is nice. Or if you have good AT&T coverage in your area the iPhone is great.

Good lord someone with an android device suggested an iPhone, that does not give me high hopes haha. Rooting is not an issue, I successfully rooted my eris and jump between ROMS. However, I want to make sure he gets a device that works pretty well right out of the box, because he's still sketched out by rooting.

Hmmm...

I thank you all for your input though, reallyy this is cool

I recommend mac products to a lot of people who just want something simple that works out of the box (ie most of the population). The iphone though depends on AT&T. Incredible isn't bad, Sense is good software.

I think that fascinate is good if you look past bloatware straight out of the box. I never noticed lag until after I rooted and became a flash whore. Now I wouldn't go back but id say normal user would love it out of box. Screen is great and its pretty simple to get used to

What is simple to you and me isn't simple to the average person :)

Agree completely...easy is subjective. :) ....androids customizability is what puts it over the top for me though... ...however...,

if someone was just getting into smarthphones and wanted something easy to learn and fun in daily use...id say the iphone may be for them

DInc HD is still rumor ATM, and with all the rumored phones that we never see I woulnd't wait up for it.

I would say first off, that if I were in the market for a phone today the SF would not be on my list if I were not planning on rooting.
I would not want to purchase a new phone with 6 month old software and anybodys guess when the promised OTA bug fix and froyo are going to arrive. This wouldn't be such a painful wait if it weren"t for the many bugs that are plaguing this phone. A quick search of the forums will reveal what I am talking about.
On the other hand if your bro is capable of roooting, installing roms, kernels etc etc. then this is definitely the best choice by far.
1) Great battery life- I usuall get a day and a half with light to moderate use.
2) Speed of operating system unparalleled
3)Reception-second to none and voice quality both ways are great.
4)Extremely loud speaker phone
5)Camera and video quality I believe are 2nd to none
6)Screen quality-speaks for itself(also very viewable in sunlight)
7)Very fast 3G speed both up and down.
8)Surfing the web is not a painful experience but a pleasure and actually very usable
9)Perfect Size- not to big or small, very pocketable and most things can be done with just using one hand.
10)Excellent music player with built in equalizer.
11)Gorilla Glass Screen ( no screen protector and not a scratch after 2 months of pocketing)
12)Excellent GPS for navigation
And the list goes on and on for those that into rooting and customizing.

I had previously owned a HTC incredible with froyo installed and rooted and there is no way I would ever consider going back to that phone. Not that it wasn't a very good phone, but when you have a customized SF the incredible just is not in the same league. As a matter of fact while I was still on my 30 day trial with the SF I fired up the incredible after having the SF for 2 weeks just to make sure I was making the right choice and just by looking at the screen on the incr instantly told me there was nothing more to consider. The SF was so much better.
I don not know what carrier your bro is on, but I would definitely want to check out the Nexus S (gingerbread) also if he is not into rooting and customizing.

Yea him and I both are on Verizon, right now I'm total Android jock so I would not let him get an iPhone, I despise them haha. Plus this is just his upgrade, he wouldn't be able to jump ship for another four months.

Anyways, it wouldn't be his first smart phone because he's coming from a BB storm, also I'm pretty knowledgeable when it comes to android so I could help him learn it easily.

With that said, for those of you who are rooted, how was the process for rooting? In regards to my eris, Rooting was a piece of cake because the devs over at XDA made processes and apps that made it 10x easier. Anything like that over here?
