I5700 Galaxy Spica/lite officially gets Android 2.1

No, I'm positive we will get it on the Portal. The ones from 3 are called Portal and run 2.1 already. There really is no difference between the Spica and the Portal. Besides, the guys at Samsung UK and T-Mobile UK have both confirmed that the upgrade is on it's way soon. Just today on Twitter T-Mobile again posted that a new 2.1 ROM for the i5700 is on its way.

Before today I wanted the upgrade, but after this:

I tried twice, it froze and did nothing. blah. I dunno what I did wrong, I did however use a package firmware instead of the individual files.

I must admit that I don't use the gallery much but I did check after you mentioned those lines and nope ...I don't have those little white lines.

Yep. GDE is nice too but I find Helix a bit "cleaner". I prefer minimal animations and a faster phone :)

Did you have the new .ops file? Mine froze on me too when I was trying to upgrade the os but with the new ops file it worked. I have a Rogers Spica and I can confirm os 2.1 works well.

I got an answer from Samsung Norway customer service today, stating that "the update should be out today, 22/4-2010. If now it will be within a couple of days".

I'll try to update when I get home, and post the results here.
 
I tryed NPS 1.4.1 AD1 I uninstalled nps 1.3 and all the drivers from my daughters laptop installed the other one after it had insalled pluged in the phone no drivers would install so went back to 1.3

Just tried again, still got hung up on <1> setup connection... even with the new spica_jc3.ops file.
 
an other week gone and nothing from samsumg or t mobile but if t mobile find any bugs they will never release it untill somebody sorts it out
 
Finally,
my spica is in 2.1 firmware.
wow.., during the upgrade/ flashing process, my heartbeat is so fast.
because i fail one time.
i follow instruction from :

first time fail, still can reboot,
second time fail, can not reboot :(
the phone screen show "phone icon and cross mark and pc icon"
3rd time flash, SUCCESS !!!

IMPORTANT note: my time upgrading is exactly 6.14, before the pass message appear.
so not really 3 minute like most internet guide said.
maybe my one so long because it not the 1st time success and the phone in non-bootable condition

i did change the Odin_v4_03 file.
I forget from which one is not working.
firmware i use is I570EDDJB2 .

1st look, very happy see diff layout.
hm.., tell my self many time, if during the upgrade, the phone brick, oohhh, really waste the money.
luck is still in my side and i really thanks to God to make my upgrade process success !
will let you know if something happen again with my phone.

lastly, hopefully my info help other who want upgrade their firmware.

 
Apparently the T-mobile release is weeks away rather than months.

TBH, I don't think I can hold out & may well Odin it with JD1!

I've tweeted the T Mobile UK thing but they've never responded to me.

ive been reading other posts and some whos upgraded via odin are having problems with buggy os/fw

hi all,
help needed here :)
Everytime, i turn off and on my handphone, it is look like the phone has been hard-reset.
is that something wrong with my 2.1 firmware?

It's only a guide for how to uprade your phone. Remove SIM, put your phone in "error seeking mode" (?) and other things to do before upgrading. If you press "Sett i gang" - Start, they give you a link to NPS a version called 1.4.1 AD1.

I tried updating, but it didn't work.

I'm from Norway btw :)

EDIT: I found this on the Norwegian Samsung site, and it says that the upgrade is available in Norway from 19. april. Which is strange, seeing as I can't upgrade my phone from 1.5.

Called samsung norway just now, they said that the update at 19. april is only the unlocked phones, the locked phones (like mine :() is getting the update sometime next week... I'll just keep waiting...
