Help i777

Hello,

Do you know whether AT&T will continue to support SGS2 (i777)? I want the Android 2.3.6 update. It is not available on its server for my phone.

Also, have you any perspectives on owning the i777 vs the Skyrocket on AT&T? I prefer the i777 but if it won't be upgraded, supported, perhaps I should rethink my options.

I would appreciate your thoughts. Thank you.

Too bad 2.3.6 sucks. Most feedback is negative and the only issues it was supposed to address, was bug fixes. Its not really an upgrade. None of them are worth anything, until ICS and its already been stated, that the i777 will be getting that. Revision changes for the sake of bugs, are not upgrades.

The i777 is a flagship phone, regardless of the Skyrocket. Better specs, better real-world operation. LTE is great if you live in a LTE area. So far, the furthest West they are, is Phoenix and its in like 8 cities. Don't expect to see any real move towards large coverage until late 2012.

When will we get ICS.......only the man on Mars knows, sometimes I want Nexus line of Android the get 1st dibbs on all the real updates, I would be amazed to get ICS before June 2012...

Given the history Samsung/AT&T have with giving us updates... your June target, might not be too far off. Though, they could surprise.

With the Captivate, I was itching for updates. When they didn't come, I learned to flash. Held the opinion, who cares about updates with bloatware, when I can have customized performance.

With the GS II, I really don't feel the need to even root the phone. I transformed the Captivate, because of issues I had with it. At this point, I don't have a single issue with this phone. It does everything I want it to and does it, with blazing fast speed. I might root, at a later date... but it would mostly be, to just get rid of the bloatware.

i agree with the poster above. the captivate needed to be ROM'd. I like the phone but it had its issues that the devs were able to fix. The GS2 is a great phone right out of the box and doesnt need to be ROM'd at all. I do it because I enjoy it but I can see why people may not want to do that on this phone.

Hi. Thank you and everyone else for your reply. I think I'll hang on to this phone and hope that AT&T will support it. I'm in Los Angeles. The phone was never even sold in LA, AT&T stores. You had to buy it online or at Radioshack. AT&T essentially shunned it for the Skyrocket- a less attractive phone. This... strategy is the source of my concern regarding future updates of the SGS2 OS. I prefer the i777 as it most resembles the i9100.

That said, is there a fix for the lock screen bug? So far, it is the only issue that I have with my phone.

Thank you very much.

I'm a couple hours N of you, so was in the same boat. Walked into Radio Shack, bought my phone, went to the AT&T store and was told they don't carry any accessories for the phone, because they don't carry the phone in-store. Heck, one girl didn't even know what I was carrying. She kept calling it an iPhone. Yes, she was an idiot.

However, the phone is for sale, everywhere other than AT&T stores. Honestly, that's typically the LAST place I go, even if I'm just looking at phones. Their sales people are ignorant. I've always ended up giving them more info, than they give me... with one exception and the guy was running custom ROMs also.

Are you talking about the pattern lock screwing up? I haven't experienced that bug, because I quit the pattern lock on my phone a while ago. I have a medical issue that emergency personnel need immediate access to. I have an App, right on my home screen. Besides, if I want to lock features/programs... AVG can do it for me.

However, I did find some possible solutions for you, if indeed it is the same bug.

P.S. I researched a lot before I bought mine. I knew about the Skyrocket and did my comparisons. Even if we had LTE in this area, I'm not sure I would buy into it. Battery life HAS to suck and quite honestly... HSPA+ is fast enough for me. Most online stuff I do, is on my 20mb home connection and the phone pulls about 14-16mb off that. From everything I've read... we won't see LTE out here, until late next year. I'm an upgrade every year kind of guy anyway... so I'll see what we have then.

Hi
I had the same experience 6 hours you the North, (Monterey). The local AT&T store had one SGS2, and the manager, who as not present in the store, was using it. No demos, not even models of the phone.
I asked why, and they said the reason they did not have any was that all the SGS2 stock "went down south" to the LA area! ... I guess not :-(
I purchased mine at best buy...

As to the screen lock problem (where your screen locks, but if you touch the screen, the screen opens up without a password (or swipe). They have not fixed it, but recommend setting the time between screen auto shutoff and locking be set to zero and that should be a fix... not the best solution, but a solution...

I've had the S2 for a month and absolutely love it. My experience with my OG Droid was that, after every update (from Eclair through the various permutations of Froyo) the phone got slower and slower and slower.

So, frankly, if they don't update the S2 any more and it stays as snappy as it is, I'm a happy camper.

Same boat^. Started with an OG Droid and switched over to AT&T for this phone (along with my first family plan with my fiance, I was previously on my parents plan on Verizon).

The only reason I might root is to kill the bloatware but ICS has functions to disable/unistall bloatware so I might wait until that comes out or just root when a complete ICS port comes out.
