Same here. They want me to send me phone back to samsung which will take 6-10 business days! SCREW THAT. Im getting my iphone back, this is ridiculous. I cant understand if it was my own fault by rooting or something, but for an official update to ruin a perfectly good phone?! Cmon....
You had the exact same issue as me and I did not root my phone. This firmware rollout is not only a mess but it's dangerous.
Quite dangerous. I wonder how many other people are experiencing the same issue? I called up Radio Shack, where I bough the phone and have an insurance policy and they aren't even sure if they can replace the phone. I did nothing wrong!!! My phone is 100% stock, never been rooted, and somehow I have to suffer to get it fixed because of Samsung's negligence. I should have stayed with apple.

I just got off a chat with Samsung. They said there is no official update for my galaxy s2. I told her that I know people that have it(my friends) and they updated today. She still denied it was out.
Also, Kies says my device is not supported to update with Kies. I have a Mac.

did you look for an update to kies? or did it update the other day?
A factory reset after a major update is always a good idea. It tends to clean up a lot of problems. While that should not delete any of your personal files, It's always a good idea to have them backed up. What a factory reset will remove are apps you've installed, mail and messaging databases (so make sure you back them up if you want to save email and text messages), contacts not sync'ed to Google and user registration data.

ok, thanks. That's what I thought.
Dont even bother with a mac; won't work. I tried every update through kies on my mac and not one worked. PC is the way to go for these phones for sure.
And to honest, don't even bother updating yet. I have a completely bricked phone and all I did was accept the download! Im sure many people are not having the same experience I am, but a large handful are. Not worth the risk in my opinion.
FYI I used Odin to unbrick / flash my phone.

Just updated my phone successfully through KIES not Kies Mini. And samsung support claimed the update wasn't out- HA!

Updated on my brothers pc. Worked fine. Took 10 minutes. Maybe less.

I have had the same issue with customer support. Just stopped the live chat with them for telling me the same crap. Only my kies software keeps failing the upgrade all together. It says it's ready to upgrade everything is downloaded and ready to go. I click the start and it just fails. Says a this program has encountered a error. I cant believe that the company can push an update through THEIR software and then tell me it does not exist. AMAZING!?
Will everything be deleted if you update the GS2 through LIES. I tried to update my cousins GS2 and I got a message saying it had an upgrade. I did everything. Until that loafing thing. Nothing happened on the phone screen. Then once the loading was complete. Nothing happened on the phone. The screen in the computer just vanished. A few sec later it tells me there is an update available and same thing happens.

I updated about 6 hours ago. First I had to download a new version of Kies, then it couldn't see my phone, but the connection troubleshooter downloaded a new phone driver - so I was back and connected just a couple minutes later. ICS downloaded quickly, no problem, and installed with me only losing a home screen battery widget, and the active wallpaper I had - at least that's all I've noticed so far.
I've had the wifi on ever since, and am still at 85% power. FINALLY! That's the fix I was hoping for!

I was recently able to get the ICS 4.0.3 update through Kies. One the update was installed, the performance is slower and glitchy. When I try to scroll from page to page or up and down through menu's, it feels slow and glitches. When I touch the camera icon, it takes a second or two before it activates. When I exit out of the camera, it I see a blank home screen and a few seconds later, the icons are added. ICS is supposed to be faster and smoother. The version supplied by Kies on Sunday evening has bunches of bugs and is slow. I though it was the launcher. So, I tried GO Launcher and NOVA Launcher. Both launchers had the same issues as the Stock launcher supplied by AT&T on ICS.
Does anyone have any work arrounds arround these issues? I'm currently disappointed with ICS!

Honestly other than bricking my phone during the update forcing me to do some unorthodox tinkering to get it working again I haven't seen any issues. My Quadrant score is 3799 which is great (for reference a droid bionic is about 2000) and the phone is very responsive. I haven't had any problems yet and the battery life seems better but I still need to run it through a full day at the office which I am doing today.
You might want to do a factory reset, I know it sucks and it requires resetting all your apps and settings but honestly mine just works well.

I haven't had any problems with ICS. In fact, it's MUCH better than Gingerbread for me. Much faster, cleaner and smoother. I didn't factory reset either.
The only things I don't like: No gmail app, now it's just "labels", the task manager now has a box width of two instead of one, the power controls are huge and don't have a condensed version
I love the facial recognition technology for the lock screen but it's unfortunate that you need to be connected to the internet to use it. I know it makes sense why you need to be, but still I never have my data on

Facial recognition is actually a lot faster than I thought it would be.
Battery has been really good for me today, I was struggling to get half a day out of Gingerbread but here we are 4 hours into my day at 87% and that's pretty damn good.
Go spout your apple crap somewhere else. I dropped apple to get the GSII and have NO regrets. Don't bitch because you are too dumb to figure out how to upgrade your phone.
I also "dropped Apple to get the GSII," and I certainly know how to update firmware -- I've been doing it for nearly 20 years! With that said, my firmware update to ICS 4.0.3 froze at 27% for over two hours. Performed a hard reset, ran emergency firmware recovery in Kies, and THAT froze at 54%. Samsung live chat support is hilariously useless -- I asked how long is an acceptable amount of time for the update to be frozen in place, and their response was (verbatim) "It will take time to finish the preocess. Please wait for sometime. It will tae 5-to 30 minustes."
