Hey,
Just seen announced on Facebook by HTC that sensation is on first wave of devices to get the upgrade in early 2012 :-) now let's hope Orange and alike don't bloat it and delay it too much!

The RUU will probably leak before it's official release so I'll be making a ROM based on that ASAP

I'm too scared to root :-(

I'm not trying to force you into something if you don't wanna do it, but the Sensation rooting process is one of the safest i've seen (much more so than when i originally rooted my old Desire)

As long as you follow the instructions you will be fine. The vast majority of cases where some has bricked their phone through rooting probably tried to skip a step or didn't follow the instructions properly. I can't actually recall seeing any instances of a Sensation being bricked either but that#s not to say there hasn't been any.

New to Android so please be gentle!

I have a Sensation XE, bougth SIM free so unlocked to all networks. When HTC release OS updates, do they release a "standard" one, e.g. for people like me, who haven't bought the phone from a network provider like 3, Orange etc?

Does it normally get released as "standard" version first (going off previous releases?)

or do I have to download a network version?

Mine is a stock phone, not rooted or anything, and I want to leap it like this, and I will wait for the official ICS version

cheers

You don't need to do anything other than click Accept/Install when your phone prompts you that an update is available. If your phone isn't network locked then your phone will grab the update direct from HTC as oppose to the network's version.

Cheers @mbatson98 and i don't question you being correct, I just don't trust myself :-) 1 month into 24 month contract, couldn't afford new sensation in the minor possibility I bricked so I feel safer to stay as am
