Help Iconia - External Storage Device dosent work

I'm new to the world of modern personal Technology - just crawled out from under my rock after 25 years in the military.
I just purchased the Iconia A500 and a GoFlex 1TB Storage device. I asked when I purchased the storage device and was told it was plug and play and worked with the Acer tablet. So I plugged it in to the USB port and Nothing!?. I could n't find any where on the table to access the computer drive or to see / find the storage devise. Can any one tutor me or send me in the right direction?

From what I have read (and this could very well be wrong as i haven't been able to really use my tab yet to try my harddrives) the larger storage devices are NTFS and the tabs cannot read that. But it can read in FAT32 (usually what smaller memory cards are formatted to) . There was an app that allowed you to access NTFS but i believe the tablet would have to be rooted to use this app. I thought I saved the link from xda where i found this but now of course can't find it.

I had the same problem with one of my external drives. My 60gb USB powered Maxtor wouldn't work, I tried my older 120 gb Maxtor and it worked great. Maybe someone can share how to format the larger drives to fat32:)

You need to get the free program from market called es file explorer.
when you open this the top left icon will move you through the folder structure. tap the icon till you see the icon mnt.
tap that one and the external sd card is the SD card you plugged into the tablet if you have one. The internal memory is called sd card.Which is kind of stupid but that is what they call it. You will also see external usb drive. That will be your usb stick if you have one plugged in. If you root your tablet you can get a program that will allow you to plug in large hard drives I use a 500 gig WD drive.

To get the A500 to read NTFS drives you must root your tablet and then install software that allows it to read the NTFS drive.

A quick search on this forum should get you the info you need.

Cheers.
